According to report by the Wall Street Journal, tonight, it appears Microsoft has been testing it new search platform named Kumo as a replacement to its current platform, live.com
It also appears according to a report by theregister.co.uk, that the domain Kumo has recently changed hands from Dascar Samira Facendo of Venezuela, who is also owner of the edu.edu domain, which he’s held since 1989, to Microsoft.
The switch of the name of Microsoft’s search platform from live.com to Kumo, came at a time before Microsoft owned the domain Kumo.com
Of course we would love to know how much Microsoft paid for the domain.
Microsoft could have saved a great deal of money had they thought like the owner of the domain offers.com which we wrote about yesterday.
Kevin Jackson says
It is a surprise to see that a company such as Microsoft has failed to het their domain strategy right.
Kumo.com is a catchy domain name, but I thought Live.com was a superb and generic fit.
I hope the gamble with this rebranding excercise will pay off for Microsoft.
Lets see if they will be able to stand up to Google!
Tim Davids says
I like “live” better also…they could also do a ireport type thing on live.
Steve M says
If this is correct, it’s a mistake. A big one at that.
Live is far superior to Kumo (which will send tons of free traffic to Sumo.com).
If they’re going to be making operational or other changes to how/what Live/Kumo does, far, far better to do it with Live.
