Why I Love the Internet

As some of you may know I have been traveling for the last month.

During the month my Dell’s hard drive crashed twice, causing me to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows Vista twice, losing all my data and e-mails.

So now I’m back in the US, waiting for Dell to send me a new hard drive and then I get to do the clean install all over again.

Now as to why I love the Internet.  While I was away i discovered Skype.

Yes I knew about Skype, but being a US guy, having phones, cell phones, cell cards for the laptop, I just never used it.

So being overseas with no cell phone, calling cards at $.50 a minute which always seem to have a couple of dollars on them when you throw them out, I put $10 on Skype  through Paypal and calling everyone I needed to in the states and Canada, and after a month I still had $4.92 left on my Skype account.

While I was using Skype I kept looking at the number of people online using Skype on the bottom of the screen, never saw less than 8 million and as high as almost 11 million.

$.02 a minute not only to call someone around the world, but you can see them as well and they can see you.

Video conferencing at $.02 a minute.

Wow.

So here’s a guy who uses the hell out of the Internet every day for over a decade, who is still finding new uses for,  and still being amazed by the  power of the Internet.
