Great info – where are the small minds in the domain name business that have said things like spending $1000+ on a domain name is a waste of money – they SHOULD read your post.

The value of domain names is ONLY GOING UP – SKY IS THE LIMIT

    GREAT POST

Actually the real story here is all the names that didn’t sell at these auctions there were some great ones and they didn’t meet reserve.

Couldn’t find of list of those anywhere

No the real story here is the domains that have never been offered for sale.

And the priceless value of domains held by an original owner made possible only because they AREN’T for sale.

The ones that can make Avis Hertz, as long as Avis’ dream can be kept alive.

    Owen

Domains that have never been offered is a different story.

This story is looking at domains that any of us could have bought 2 years ago (actually less) and passed on.

Domains that are still being held by the original owner, like Israel.com, who I would guess has turned down tons of offers for serious money, are a great story, but a different one.

Interesting list of domains. I looked up a few that I would have purchased if I had known then what I know now..
    UniformRentals.com is parked
    Tablets.com is parked
    Produce.net is parked

If I had won them at the price listed I would have spent $73,000.

What I am wondering is…with that kind of money… why not go ahead and spend a couple of thousand getting a website built? I am curious, because it seems to me that even a mediocre site with your own adsense account has to bring in more than a parked page..and it has been 2 years so you could have developed page rank, back links , etc…

Can anybody offer me some insight on this?

    People are Lazy

Also no one have ever shown me stats that a page with content and adsence made more than it did as a parked page.

You’re right about the lack of revenue disparity between a page with content & adsense versus a parked page because in both situations the site is simply paid to deliver traffic.
However, a developed page with static advertising and/or a strong affiliate commission deal will blow parking revenue out of the water because the site then becomes its own revenue converter.

    David

I agree with you a developed site will far exceed a parked page’s revenue.

I have seen this first hand with two of our domains, luxurybedding.com and homefashions.com which are both doing about 10x the revenue, net to us, as a developed page than they were doing as a parked page.

Without giving away personal financials…can you give us some info. on the ROI in terms of roughly how much you spent on development and how long it has taken to pay that investment back?
I am still wondering if I had spent $73,000 on those 3 domains how much I could have made on them by leaving them parked, versus spending another $15,000 to get them up and running.

    Kelly

We did this deal as a joint venture with the developer.

So we had $0 cost on our end, was immediately profitable for us, and the developer is spiting the profits with us equally.

These deals will out perform parked pages or adsence pages all the time, the problem is that they are right now few and far between and can only cover a very small percentage of the domains we own.

We are on the look out for others
