Rick Schwartz tweeted out some recent acquisitions and it seems $600 is the sweet spot. Last week I did sell Rick a name for $1,000 (BraAndPanties.com). Seems like he is finding bargains in the sub $1000 category.

My most recent domain purchases. ALL .com BoldPrint, Ritzville, Broadstaff, FaceMovie. Average price $600. $600!! #Domains #gtld #startups

If those domains were submitted to DomainSherpa he would be told to go back to the drawing board. He’s lucky to have got in when he did. Those are some terrible names.

The only people who give a damn about what the people On Domain Sherpa think are the people on domain Sherpa none of them are in ricks league, none of them.

Yeah Rick is the one that’s lucky. Keep telling yourself that snowflake, $600 is nothing to Rick, kinda like sofa cushion money. I think he sold ireport.com for $750,000 you and the Sherpas (sorry I have to laugh writing that, the sherpas, LOL) probably would have passed on that domain.

I saw he also bought raunchy.tv in the thread also for $750.

I got to say, I don’t think I would be wasting my time on twitter buying $600 domains if I owned a portfolio that he “self” values at $500M, let alone liquid $100M.

What is he going to do with boldprint.com sell it for $5-10K??? when you sell domains for 7-8 figures, who has the time to waste?

Rick’s an old man hooked on domains…just passing time by doing what he loves to do…it’s not about the money anymore…like some people enjoy fishing, Rick enjoys domaining…nothing wrong with that!!!

For the record I was bidding on BoldPrint.com without knowing Rick was

      He outbid me

Its the kind of domain I sold in the $25k-$50K range.

Who cares what he paid for them? I’ll be more impressed by what he sells them for. What end users will buy these names for a premium price?

End users have adapted with the industry, sure some names can still command the I DON’T WANT TO SELL IT PRICE, but sometimes they just go with option #2

Rick deserves all the credit in the world for having such great vision in the 90’s and the discipline to hold out for the prices he got. No one can ever say he left any money on the table in any of his deals. It’s almost like he went back in 1985 and stole a 2000 Almanac. That’s how great did.

However, I don’t think he uses modern domaining techniques, ie, I don’t believe he is a regular user of dropcatch.com, snap, nj, or even godaddy auctions. It is very difficult to succeed in 2017 without acquiring in any of those channels.

For comparison, here are some of my recent purchases that average $600:

    galoshes.com
    vulvas.com
    jmho.com
    jubilist.com

Yes, he has made a lot of money, but he doesn’t open up the wallet, the venues you mentioned are not exactly wholesale venues anymore. Taryn over at namejet has been killing it with their portfolio sales, and they are reinvesting that money and spending it at namejet like the AM dial is here to stay!
