60 Minutes Covered Vine Millionaires on Sunday; Today It’s All Over

October 27, 2016 by Michael Berkens

On Sunday the television show 60 minutes covered “The Influencers” “Social media stars are earning big money for pitching products in short, often silly, postings seen by millions of followers.”

Parts of the 60 Minutes segment  chatted with people who said they were making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on Vine.

Today Twitter announced they were killing off Vine after they paid $30 million for it back in 2012

“One of the most successful is Andrew Bachelor, known as King Bach, who has more than 37 million followers.

About half of his following is from one platform called Vine. Videos on Vine are just six seconds long.”

“Advertisers pay Bach just to place their products in his clips. He made a handful of videos wearing a Jimmy Johns logo and earned more than $300,000 from the sandwich maker.

Bill Whitaker: You’re making money off of this?

Andrew Bachelor: I can retire if I wanted to.”

Well now that Twitter announced today that they are closing down Vine,  I guess Mr. Bachelor is going to have to retire or at least move on to something else.

Just a reminder how fluid the Internet world is and how a huge money maker can change in a blink of the eye.

A good life lesson for all of us.

    yes.
just like when the search engines supported parking pages,
they were for it, before they were against it.
    blink. and things change.

This is why it is critical that brands, companies and entrepreneurs own thier own best version of their domain name. Putting your livelihood in someone else’s hands is always a bad idea. Controlling your brand and your message on your own domain name is foundational to a sustainable business model.

We keep seeing this scenario playout over and over again.

All roads lead back to domain names. Own your land and you have the highest degree of freedom. Build on someone else’s land and your judgement day will come, its only a matter of time.

Yep. 100% correct. People are building homes on property when they have no contract.
FB, and pretty much all social sites can pull the plug on you at any given time they don’t need a reason.

If your advertising for them and not your own domain that is just plain stupid.

These social sites should be just funnels or streams flowing into your main site. That guy above with vine should of done a redirect with his own main site or domain and collected email, phone info etc. No one is following him now because they don’t know where he is at.

I contacted 60 minutes after this segment. This is the mentality of millennials. stupid and dumbed down. A sad state of affairs. Videos because they cannot read text aka Zuckenberg. This is why social media is useless. originating junk that has no real value with 30 million users. Also Zuckenberg states this is the future with 1.7 billion users.
With a changed algorithm on FB, twitter up for sale, and snapchat under 30 with the same dumbed down audience this only adds credence why domains are important. You control the content, seo, linking and marketing. You can weed out anything that is stupid like these influencers. Thirty million followers that have zero value to the bottom line.

The only VINE that matters is the service that calls you when there is change in inmate status or a prisoner is about to be transferred or released, it’s called Victims Notification Network. V.I.N.E tells me when my sisters ex-husband gets out of the state correctional facility for arson.

Building your property on someone else’s land without a solid lease – nuts.
