677.com sells for 3.75 million Yuan ($577,125)

April 26, 2016 by Raymond Hackney

The domain name 677.com was reported as sold Ename.cn. The domain sold for 3,750,000 Yuan. ($577,125). The thing that was interesting about the sale was that the domain is being used for an ongoing business.

Ename said the following,

Which Google translated to,
As these domain names only three digital domain, 677.com belong to ABB type, with “Fun Fun” and other harmonics. 2012 domain name investors Lei Zheng Bao Liu said 6-digit price to sell this domain name. 2013 The domain has been exposed or 6-digit price easy to master.

Currently access domain 677.com, it has been found to build a 677-campus, then why generals domain name up for auction? The site is about to cease operations? Or recent cash flow difficulties? Specific reasons not yet known.

Kassey Lee from Coreile.com who I collaborate with often, said the following,
This sale is quite unusual because 677.com is still a live site owned by a company providing architect training. Are they closing the business? Or they are having cashflow problem? Reason for sale is unknown.

Very cheap. If Rick Schwartz was an owner of this domain, he would not sell for less than 1. 5 million.

      @Dinho — Don’t be so sure.

Chinese investors (and business culture), are not too fascinated by the number 6 and 7. However, auspicious numbers like 8 and 9 are good for business and holds more value; even more valuable if it has double 8s or double 9s.

So, don’t expect a 3-character numeric domain like 677.com without 8 and 9 to sell any higher. I should also note that, numeric domains with auspicious meanings are considered more valuable. 888 and 328 means “business will surely/easily prosper”, so a new domain like 328.business makes sense and may also be valuable in new China IMO.

That said, it is my believe the -$600k the domain sold for, was a good sale for the seller. I’m sure Rick have sold similar NNNs in the same price range.

That’s seems about what he would have sold it for based on better ones he has already sold.

Well since my name was mentioned I feel like I would weight in.

I can’t speak for Rick obviously but for myself and this is not news the sales price of a domain is going to vary depending on the seller need/desire to sell and domain market conditions which change like all other markets

I would say 4Q last year your statement is right I would have turned this offer down.

However as we sit today you can’t get a quick sale at $1.5 million on this domain.

    No way.

    Remember 877.com?

When I was involved with RightoftheDot.com we had that domain in the Namescon auction in 2015 with a reserve well below $500K did sell and only got a high bid I think of around $250K.

Fast forward 8 months to September Rick and sold 899.com for $801K

    http://www.thedomains.com/2015/09/16/rick-schwartz-sells-899-com-for-801000-now-has-1st-3rd-largest-reported-sales-of-2015/

Rick sold 989.com for $818k+ also in September:

    http://www.thedomains.com/2015/10/20/lucky-8s-rick-schwartz-tops-10-5m-in-sales-for-2015-sells-989-com-for-818181-81/

Back in 2014 sale of 37.com for $2.1 million to a large China game maker:

    https://www.namepros.com/blog/inside-interview-an-exclusive-look-at-the-2-1-million-dollar-sale-of-37-com.939887/

So what I’m saying the market is fluid, prices change especially on the domains that trade almost like commodities those we call the China domain.

So I would not sell this domain for that amount if I owned it at this time.

But I might have to wait a year or several to get a substantially higher number.

“I might have to wait a year or several to get a substantially higher number.”

I agree. There are less and less like them on the market.
Remember, there are only 20 domains like 677. (?NN & NN?)

I am sure the seller is happy to have the money assuming the commission was not excessive.
And, I am positive the buyer will be happy with the price in 1-4 years.
