October 31, 2014 by Michael Berkens

The launch of domain names ending with .NYC about a month ago have just 47,000 .NYC domains have been claimed and will become internet websites from and for New York City.

Sites are following suit. Eight sites are already in Alexa´s top One million count. Alexa provides traffic data, global rankings and other information on 30 million websites and is one of the main sources of information for internet usage.

According to one report out today, the following are the eight sites already up in the Alexa´s ranking, top one million

Keep in mind that Alexa ranking is based on a 90 day average and of course .NYC hasn’t been out for 90 days:

Digital.nyc  (226,000 worldwide 18K in sites visited by those in the United States)

Gaycitynews.nyc  (118,000 in US)

Pickleday.nyc  (8K in sites visited by those in the United States)

Shubert.nyc

Casey.nyc

C4q.nyc

Dancenyc.nyc

Yesterday at RightoftheDot.com a company I am a Director of announced the launch of a domain name registrar focused on .NYC domain names with CentralNic, NYC.Domains.

You can now register domain names ending in .NYC at NYC.Domains

As of publication according to ntldstats.com, .NYC has almost 48,000 domain name registrations and appears that it will pass .London in the next few days.

We also launched a domain name registrar yesterday for those that want to launch .London domain names at London.Domains, which is another joint project of CentralNic and RightoftheDot

Alexa ranking, particularly above 100,000 is very inaccurate and not a metric to be taken seriously.

Actually digital is already in top 80,000 on alexa. https://domainpunch.com/topm/

Here in new york, they promoting digital.nyc in every meet up, start up, and what ever you want. Everyone in tech world in new york have been hit over the head with digital .nyc . Meet ups, etc, they promoting it full tilt.

Which might not be visible yet, but basically they promoting .nyc domain, since if you look at Digital.nyc logo part of .nyc is 2/3s of the image.

City TLDs will be some of the first to gain real traction. Their audiences are geo targeted and loyal. With .nyc, the nexus requirements will bring true meaning to the extension and will likely accelerate seo benefits. Good luck with the city tld business models, Mike. And, great move, imo.
