Two Social Media Powerhouses With Over 7 Million Followers Re-brand to An .XYZ Domain

October 28, 2014 by Michael Berkens

A couple of social media trendsetters have gone with an .XYZ domain name for their internet domain name presence.

Tasia Alexis is by any measure a social media powerhouse with a total of 3.85 million followers has registered and proudly promoting her new domain name Tasia.xyz

If you haven’t heard of Alexis, well she has some pretty impressive social media numbers:

Vine – 3 Million followers & 451Million loops
Youtube – 24,000 Subscribers
Instagram – 650,000 Followers
Facebook – 16.5K Followers
Twitter – 161,000 Followers

Its a total of 3.85Million Followers.

Social media trendsetters have a lot of influence over their followers.

Getting these social media powerhouses is a pretty out of the box marketing strategy especially for a domain name registry.

The best part of the story is that Tasia decided to go with a .XYZ on her own accord.

The .XYZ registry smartly sent her a t-shirt and her picture with the .XYZ Gear got over 31K likes

Alexander Holtti is another social media icon with a huge following of over 3.2 million people:

Vine – 2.5 Million Followers almost 500 Million loops
Twitter – 159,000 Followers
Facebook – 62,000 Likes
Youtube – 136,000 Subscribers
Instagram – 419,000 Followers

Total – 3,276,000

Alexander Holtti chose Holtti.xyz which is his new home aggregating all of his social feeds in one, and allowing fans and agents to contact him for opportunities.

His email is powered by Google Apps and his website is powered by #GenXYZ VIP.

The .XYZ registry smartly also sent Alex a t-shirt, and his picture with his .XYZ shirt got 36.6K Likes on Instagram.

I think this is a great example of how registries can get the next generation of internet to adopt new gTLD’s.

Those that will influence behavior and buying decisions of millions of younger people should not be disregarded

If the new gTLD’s is about the next generation, then this is another brilliant but rare example by a registry how to generate the hype and usage that will increase registrations over time.

PS: Yes I’m aware that this two Gen X’s make more money than I do wearing silly glasses and doing silly stuff which I’m not that thrilled about but its a new day and time so respect for those that find a why to create something out of the box.

I don’t buy for a second that these people went with a .xyz on their own….xyz is probably knocking on many doors and these are the people who answered, and of course compensated.

It really doesn’t matter if these social moguls went to .xyz on their accord, what matters is this: Here we come grabbing the attention of the new generation of domaines. Screamed by gtlds specifically .club, .xyz, .berlin, .nyc.

Here we come. And we willake history.

Bravo to google bravo to amazon bravo to trend setters and innovators of our time e.g. New Gtlds. These times will be remembered as the day Internet changed hands from the old guard to the new.

yeah ok then. releasing new extensions is a brand new concept, never done before. get off your high horse. nothing new has been created, innovated or invented. just repackaged.

LOL @ “Two Social Media Powerhouses” … 😀
Two teens who with narcissistic and selfie mania …
All this “valuations” based on number of followers are just BS … I see history repeating itself, but some people never learn from past mistakes …

“its a new day and time so respect for those that find a why to create something out of the box.”
    I’m a very open-minded person, but this is just bubble-time junk …

And I’m sure they were paid for this ad stunt, even if they probably would never admit …

One of last pathetic attempts of Mr Negari to stay afloat … lol …

Yep, they were paid. For a teen, probably even 5-10 k is a lot, so bam. Ya we will love your xyz!

Not quite a re-brand, but more of getting a website for an existing brand with an existing audience, not that there’s anything wrong with that. Looks to me like a handy-dandy program there at http://gen.xyz/vip for social medialites to easily get a feed-generated website.

let’s call it for what it is … a cheap ad stunt …

    How do you define “best”?
I prefer to use bullshit in these situations.

These “Social Media Powerhouses” usually charge by the Tweet. Now where did I put Tasia’s price list?

    • Andrea Paladini says

      October 28, 2014 at 8:09 pm

Kosta, they charge also by the follower/subscriber … LOL 😀
Followers, likes and subscribers that you can easily purchase online on sites like Buycheapfollowersfast (.com) …
It’s the festival of fake … just to keep the bubble inflated …

Everything will be clear at the time of first renewal. If the renewal is 100,000+, that’s a success imo.

I do find the VIP program mentioned by @djchuang to be very interesting.
.XYZ is at least providing something of value to the customer, other than just the domain. It seems like a good fit for social media superstars.
To take things a step further, a registry (like .XYZ) should get in the business of offering free websites to the general public, that are integrated with their domain system. So, if I buy Eric.xyz I would also get a free website for it.

Interesting how these 2 websites : http://tasia.xyz + http://holtti.xyz have the EXACT SAME website template. What are the odds :p

Or I should have said: how much did Daniel pay them to get these domains and wear those t-shirts?

  13. Bram Chauvin says

    October 29, 2014 at 1:24 pm

WHOIS information for the two domains is also identical: both domains have private WHOIS, they use the same name servers and ASN (AMAZON) and the 2 domains were registered only 5 days apart. How gullible does Daniel think we are?

  14. Michael Berkens says

    October 29, 2014 at 1:42 pm

I have no idea maybe he did pay them to make the move, maybe he has an employee or several dedicated to getting new customers from those with a big social media following.

Same principal as product placements in a TV show or movie that many Fortune 500 pay for regularly.

Big companies pay big money for celebs or bloggers for tweeting something out, if he did pay them, he is not by far the first

Initially I didn’t think much of .xyz. . . but this could work… I like the aggressive promoting of this TLD. Young people will love it. xyz may not mean anything, but . . . wait, maybe it could mean something. Could mean: This is the tld for young people?? lol I don’t know – let’s see what happens.

I can’t find the .org. .gov or .edu buttons. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!!!? What are THEY going to do? If they don’t pay ransom to the cybersquatters holding the corresponding .com, no one will ever find them.

Like many of you who have commented, I also don’t agree with the tactics .xyz has taken to pump up the registration numbers for their gtld. I do however commend them for their continued efforts to promote the use of .xyz. I don’t think any of you senior domainers who own the best names in dot com need to worry about xyz overtaking the popularity of dot com in your lifetimes. What do most of you have left? 20 or 30 years? Dot xyz will only be used by the people Daniel has talked about the most–genxyz. Let the younger generation use it for their blogs and start ups. In the mean time, you will continue to make the big bucks off of dot com. The people who will use xyz are perfectly happy with it and even see it a better fit for their style of life. Chill our a bit!

“Dot xyz will only be used by the people Daniel has talked about the most–genxyz. Let the younger generation use it for their blogs and start ups.”
Younger gen will adopt “en masse” .xyz? Just a wishful thinking …
(unless Negari pays each of them thousands of $ … LOL! :D)

“What do most of you have left? 20 or 30 years?”
Personally I find this comment by “tom s” very rude, even if I’m younger than those “senior domainers” he’s mentioning.
Tom S should remember than also younger people can “have left” little time … life can be unpredictable, don’t take anything for granted …

BTW Mike, congrats for the sale of RookiePoker.com, you got a great price! 🙂
