Several new gTLD applicants were interviewed for a National Public Radio (NPR) News piece out today that covers the new gTLD’s.

NPR interviewed the applicant for .Wed as well as Daniel Negari from .XYZ

Daniel is quoted as saying

“.Com is pretty crowded.”

“We end the alphabet ends with XYZ so it makes perfect sense that domain names should end in .XYZ as well.

Donuts Dan Schindler was interviewed for the piece as well as Tom Brackey.

    since the alphabet begins with abc, why not create an .ABC extension and say, ‘This is where you business begins”

    since #s begin with 012, why not create a .012 extension

    these letters are just in the english alphabet as well.

    I just don’t understand this way of thinking…I must be the dumb one here.

    i like gTLD and i think .xyz is pretty stupid.

    in a world of specific gTLD’s the idea of trying to be a “new default” is completely backwards.

    .web is stupid too. no matter how many registrations it gets i think .web is one of the dumbest gTLD coming.. hurray, .net’s little sisters cousin is in town oh yay

    good analogy- those dot whatevers are like islands and you want people to live in your island.
    Dot com island is crowded, most recognizable , most demanded and the most expensive(demand and supply) and that where all the money is….

    @ontheinterweb

    Just to show that I don’t think everything you write about the gTLDs is a bit over the top, I agree with what you’ve written above. And while I believe .web is the very definition of redundancy and I don’t understand the excitement over it either, it isn’t too hard to find others that are either just as dumb or even dumber. The vast majority fall into either of those categories, in my opinion.
