The domain name Fuckbook.ca just sold on Sedo.com for $30,000

Although the Its not clear who the buyer is, they seem to be unrelated to the owners and operators of the site fuckbook.com

Fuckbook.com is owned by the same company that operates socialsex.com

Fuckbook.ca does not appear to be related to that company.

I haven’t been seeing too many $xx,xxx .Ca sales reported on Sedo recently so congrats to the buyer and seller

    That’s great! Big .ca sale

wow unrelated to the owners of fuckbook.com

Someone might get in to some legal problems down the road…

    Eza

The term is not trademarked nor do I think with that particular four letter word at the front trademarkable

Beyond that its a combination of two common words not sure there is much to be done there

It should be noted that Fuckbook.co is not owned by fuckbook.com and forwards to a site owned by Adult Friend Finder, Fuckbookhookups.com

    Thanks Mike!

You are right…i should have looked up if there was a trademark…i just figured.

I actually ran some whitelabel fuckbook affiliate sites on some of my domains…but that didn’t last long enough for me to talk about it…not that they didn’t give me a good service or that site were bad…i just changed my mind.

And didn’t facebook go after something similar or same idea…

Anyways, look what i just found on my favorite Domain news sites:

    http://www.thedomains.com/2010/08/30/facebook-sues-teachbook-why-is-the-media-the-blogosphere-so-upset-will-this-help-to-change-trademark-laws/

I don’t know how that law suit went down…but most be scary as a domainer to be facing Facebook.

well I actually wrote another post to update that story

Oh ok…well that confirms that they were swimming in deep water.

So Michael – you see Fuckbook non trademarkable – and therefore not an infringement of Facebook

    Brian

That is not what I said

I see fuckbook not trademarkable therefore fuckbook.ca not a TM of the .com

I think either could be subject to an action by FB and lets not forget that they did take action on the facebookofsex.com

FacebookOfSex.com would be like IBMofSex.com or GoogleofSex.com – so that one is a slam dunk because it incorporates the entire famous TM – and I would agree with that one

I see Faceplay and Facewerk are still battling over Facebook’s attempt to usurp FACE for their own.

At the end of the day it is probably not in FB’s best interest to mess with fuckbook at all from a PR standpoint.

    Interesting Brian…

We can say that fuckbook.ca is a great sell…and a good gamble!

Guys I have a question for you:

-What do you think will happen when the new gTLD’s come out and (for example) .book will be able to have face.book??

    any thoughts?

    Eze

    I think a good question

I would say that Facebook would not have a “right” to face.book they would have a right to facebook.book

    @MB

Facebook.book? As a name, that’s magnitudes worse than TheFacebook.com, (which Facebook of course still owns, and isn’t really all that bad), so what’s the point? 😉

I suppose as a defensive registration… but then again, people aren’t going to suddenly stop clicking on their #1 favorite bookmark and start typing Facebook.book by accident. But the paranoid side of any big company will likely help to keep the gTLD registrars, happy. And like any fear-driven industry, that looks to be part of the plan.

Love to see the big .ca sales! This one was also reported on the DNS sales list. In the past week ContactLenses.ca also sold at DNS in the 20-50k range, looks like Lens.com was the buyer. F*ckbook.ca has a creation date of 2009, I wonder if it was a fresh reg, or caught on the drop? Either way, a great sale.

    @Mike

Thanks…this was been a question i’ve been having these days…with all the new gTLD’s and the possibilities of this happening in many other cases as well.

I figure that…i guess it will be interesting to see how Google treats them.

Well regarding Google don’t forget that they applied for 100 of their own new gTLD’s

    R. E. = ” Well regarding Google don’t forget that they applied for 100 of their own new gTLD’s

Google is going to need to do more than just register new Monopoly TLDs , all international EYES are on them. This will wind up sinking them if they go forward. MARK MY WORDS AND PLEASE TIME STAMP THIS ONE!

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)
