Thank-you for sending the list of Afternic sales. It never ceases to amaze me why some very obscure or “weak” domains can sell for several thousand dollars , when far more obvious marketing domains , like visit-hollywood.com , for example, do not even attract buyers.
I think that competencies.com is a very clumsy term, that is hardly ever used.Yet it has sold for 10000 dollars. What is the thinking behind that?
What will it sell? Competencies or competency are words that are rarely used in the UK. They may be more common in the USA. Is it used by legal firms in America ?
There are many obscure terms in that list that have sold for more than $3000.

IMO, as usual the domains on the Afternic list are overrated and overpriced. I doubt that some “names are good and have meaning.” IMO, some names are overpriced and end-users pay the asking price, even if the keywords are rarely searched or the branding effort is misstated. It will take additional money to build traffic.
Just noticed several domains sold last year are websites no longer operable. The buyers wasted them money instead of making smarter decisions. Overspending on mediocre domains will cost you good opportunities. Most who make a mistake buying overpriced domains will say, “That’s life”.
Better to evaluate the value the domain has on a good plan. Why spend high prices on domains with little value to drive traffic and to build lead generation? Very poor decision making here. Monitor these domains for the next year, and you will see either winning and or losing results.
