The Miami Marlins Start The Season With A New Name & New Stadium But Without The Domain Names For Either

April 9, 2012 by Michael Berkens

Its a new baseball season and the Miami Marlins, formerly the Florida Marlins have a new name, a new $600 Million stadium, but don’t own the domain MiamiMarlins.com

The domain name MiamiMarlins.com was first registered way back in 1997 and looks to be control of the same person/company that originally registered the domain.

The domain name isn’t parked, there are no ads on the site, just a statement that “this site is privately owned” and the Alexa ranking with an email address.

The baseball team doesn’t own the name of its new stadium, Marlins park.

The domain name marlinspark.com was first registered in 2006 and is a parked page.

The official site of the baseball team is Marlins.com and they also own the domain name FloridaMarlins.com

MLB teams don’t do any of that, it is all done by MLB. MLB owns the names, and all teams sites are part of mlb.com

The marlins may not have their domain, but Major League Baseball was smart with regards to their content streaming strategy by utilizing MLB.TV for their customers.

    Very smart choice.
