Moniker.com Falls To Number 11, As FastDomain.com Passes Them

January 4, 2012 by Michael Berkens

According to RegistrarStats.com,  Moniker.com just fell to the 11th largest domain name registrar being passed by FastDomain.com

During 2011 FastDomain.com picked up around 800,000 registrations while Moniker which was the 7th largest registrar at the beginning of 2011.

During 2011 Moniker.com lost about 8o0,000 domains under management and sits right over 2 Million domain names.

I don’t know much of anything about FastDomain.com, other than they seem to be headquartered in Provo Utah.

Moniker.com on the other hand we hear through the rumor mill, fired some more staff last week.

It should be noted that Webhosting.info still have Moniker as the 10th largest registrar with FastDomains.com as number 12 and KeySystems.com as number 11th.

KeySystems.com is listed as number 12 on RegistrarStats.com.

Moniker —oops I mean “Monte”-ker without Monte – is no different than “Free Falling” with Tom Petty. Sitting around on the efforts of Monte only last so long….Who is going to buy them up – if there is anything really left to buy up – they certainly have one of the bests interfaces !!!

Regarding the management interface, I was going to say that too. It’s still the best for managing more than a few dozen domains imho. Namecheap’s not too bad, of course Godaddy is an unusable dungpile of javascript and upsells, etc.

Not sure why there’s such an exodus unless it’s just a few very large portfolios that moved away.

Moniker customer service is really lacking, their system had many issues earlier in the year, had some issues with domains not being registered but being charged, and mention of refund was like getting teeth pulled, no fun at all. Take my $8 elsewhere…

No surprise. Moniker was great with Monte at the helm especially when complex issues arose. Moniker does have a solid interface though as Brian stated. Agree with SL- Godaddy’s interface is annoying but their pricing works.

Any thoughts on how this will impact their live auctions in the future?

I don’t know much about the domains side but certainly I can attest that my itty bitty piece of the HostMonster datacenter there in Provo, UT has provided some of my sites with just about as rock solid hosting as one could ever ask for, at a decent price.
