BankSimple Acquires & Changes Its Name to Simple.com

November 8, 2011 by Michael Berkens

BankSimple.com has been getting some nice press recently as an alternative to the “big banks”.

You can read about them here, and here, and here.

Today in their blog  Bank Simple announced they were changing their domain name to simple.com

The domain name simple.com was owned by Walter Holdings Ltd. of Barbados.

In July of this year, Jamie Dotweekly.com, noticed that the whois changed to privacy.

Now it’s clear that the domain is now owned by Bank Simple.

Its another sale that we didn’t hear of and I’m pretty sure it was not a small purchase.

Here is more info from the blog:

“”We’re thrilled to be welcoming our first customers. We want to understand what works for them and what can be improved. We also want to learn how our customers prefer to reach us so that we can intelligently grow our customer relations team. Using this feedback, we’ll rework and revise; the experience we’re launching today will continuously evolve. There is still a tremendous amount to be done, but as of today we are live to our first customers, and that’s a huge milestone for us.

Today is a new beginning for another reason as well: BankSimple is now Simple. Simple is a better representation of what we aspire to. It releases us from the constraints of an industry in desperate need of innovation.

Using Simple, you can make purchases with a Simple Visa® card, pay bills, earn interest, set up and track savings goals, and much more. Simple replaces your bank, but we are not a bank. You use our mobile and web apps and speak with our customer relations team when you have questions. We partner with chartered banks that hold your deposits in FDIC-insured products. They take care of money, we take care of customers, and together we’re delivering a new type of financial experience that’s easier, faster, and friendlier.”””

Wow…even with a name like BankSimple.com they’d be fairly different from the average bank, but just Simple.com? That’ll surely get them a lot of nice press.

Not always a good idea to go against the norms of an industry like banking but when it’s reeling like this, it’s the best time to try it. Great purchase!

People don’t care about trendy, flashy bank names or websites. User interface capital investments are usually a waste of resources – many better uses for simple . com than this.

Whoever says this was a bad acquisition is missing brain cells, or just writing BS in order to spam their domain names in their signature (a common theme on domain blogs).

    Simple.com

The value of this name is obvious. Excellent buy.
