American Express Rolls Out Serve.com As It Mobile Wallet Solution In Another Domain Sale We Never Heard About

October 12, 2011 by Michael Berkens

American Express rolled out its mobile wallet solution and its going with the domain name Serve.com for the product.

The domain was owned by Datarealm Internet Services who was the original registrant of the Domain in 1995.

Amex seems to have acquired the domain name in October of 2010.

Its another one of the domain name sales we never heard about.

“With Serve you can spend, send, and swipe — online, offline, and mobile.”

“”The Serve card is accepted wherever American Express® Cards are accepted, at thousands of U.S. locations. ”

So while we have criticized AMEX in the past most notably in not securing the domain name blackcard.com (owned by Visa) in this case it seems they went out and got a decent one word .com for their new product so we say well done.

Of course banks and financial institutions can’t talk about spending $1M on a domain name publicly these days. The 99% or whatever would be pissed. It would certainly be a lot of press for domain names though.

AMEX(AXP) is a publicly traded company so they would have to disclose in their filings the purchase amount for such a large expense assuming it’s $1M+.

@ Tony, It will be interesting to find out – would you let us know?

It’s a nice brand/domain for an exciting up-and-coming industry, that of mobile payments. “Serve” connotes power & strength because of its meaning in sports (volleyball, tennis), and it’s a great brand for all the different facets of payment – debit, charge, funding, electronic reimbursement to a friend for lunch – AMEX wants to roll out under one umbrella of digital payment.

    Thanx for positive news! 🙂

I have TapToGive.com I think it could be used for a site with information focused on charitable fundraising, especially during emergency situations.

Hi @ Lucy, that should be an app, once the fund gets its nonprofit status, like SalonMeritageFund dot org. It went live, and I want to contribute, but will wait until the application is listed on the IRS form. It happened 3 miles away from where I stay, ruined our pretty, peaceful sunny Southern California day! So it should be an app that does an automatic check to confirm the 501 # is valid.
