Breaking: Cheese.com; Prague.com; MexicoCity.com & Sailboats.com/Motorboats.com Added To TRAFFIC Auction

October 11, 2011 by Michael Berkens

TRAFFIC has just added 4 great domain names to its auction line up for next Tuesday.

2 huge Geo domains were added;

MexicoCity.com with a Reserve under $800,000

Mexico City’s metropolitan population is over 20 Million making it the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere.

Prague.com with a Reserve under $800,000.

Prague is the largest city in the Czech Republic and a very popular tourist city.

The June ICANN meeting next year will be held in Prague.

Cheese.com has been added with a reserve price of $1 Million dollars.

In addition to being a huge industry, its a great domain for a photo site liker Flicker.com or certainly a highly brandable web 2.0 domain name.

Finally SailBoats.com and MotorBoats.com is in the auction together as a package and the Reserve price is $1.5 Million dollars.

We updated our poll to include these domains if you haven’t voted yet (once again you can vote for up to 5 domain names but you have to do it at the same time)

The auction will be held one week from today on October 18th starting at 2pm Live from the TRAFFIC conference.

I don’t think that any of these domain names have been in an auction before.

We will be in attendance to report on the auction.

    Nice selection of domains.

There are great names, but if the goal is a high sell rate, are there now TOO MANY high-priced names??

How many people attending can afford to buy $50k+ names??

There were 300 people there last year – so if it’s an ambitious 25%, then that’s 75 people that can afford it, yet there are almost 40 names with $50k+ reserves, NOT INCLUDING many of the .xxx names.

May be doing more harm then good as investors may not buy more than one name now, if any

There are still quite a few no reserve and under $10K domains in the auction.

If your talking about domains of this quality all you really need is one.

Great domains. I highly doubt they will sell. I hope they do through, MexicoCity.com for $800,000 would be a great sale for anyone that owns quality GEO’s.

Does anyone know what they highest Geo sales in the past have been? I’m curious.

Monte & I were both asked to broker these domains (and many others) just about 1 hour ago and then suddenly I see this post ?

Don’t think these caliber names will sell in a TRAFFIC auction to be honest – but it will certainly bring some attention.

for these prices a capable individual or team that does not need the help of consultants could launch .mexicocity, .cheese, .sailboats, or .prague

    easily.

    but this is .com

and there can be only one.

dot com. there is no substitute.

why is a, MexicoCity-only, domain so high priced, while an, ENTIRE Mexico, domain isn’t?

Cheese.Com is a steal at 1 million.I can’t believe Kraft foods does not own that.

    @troy is it Rio.com for 400k?

I am not really sure maybe David knows this market better.

Nice list of names for auction. Hope it goes ok. Lots of high end things in there.

A reflection of a changing – but not dwindling industry of top geos and generics.
A new class of investors – not non-business orientated wankers who sat in front of their computers in the mid 90’s is coming – this is good news for the industry – but not for my business naodel nor my less deep pockets.

    Boring

Domainers will get a hard-on yapping on about category killer, the usual soundbites about how Kraft ‘don’t get it’ etc

    MexicoCity.com $800,000 ? Good luck with that
Who wants to go to such a dump

More free advertising before they shop these domains around for the next 20 yrs…

Oh – in before all the ‘tards come out with their similar domains in their ‘portfolio’ & the fantasy offers they’ve received..

oh – and in before some other ‘tard comes in with .co…

“Does anyone have the full list at this auction, I counldnt find it on the site.”

“The auction will be held… ”
Look for the wording above in the main article and the link is there.

    Then, go down to 2pm.

    Marlana,
You don’t need to be in the room to bid.
I’m sure many of the big bids will come from phone bidding.

I wonder if Rick will permit phone bids from people in the room who
    prefer not to be known?

Cheese.com is pretty huge, nice marquee name to add to the list.

We own LocalCheese.com – would make an excellent ecommerce store, specially since local cheese delivery seems to be the solution considering the fact that it is a perishable.

Motorboats.com is cool too, geo names are great but they leave me cold since I know what it costs to develop and promote them.

Where do they list the amout of traffic that the individual domains get ?

    Dubai.com might sell, but I don’t see it listed . . .
