Copy Sells For Just $101K On NameJet.com

August 11, 2011 by Michael Berkens

The auction for the domain name Copy.com just closed on Namejet.com at just $101,300.

The price IMHO is quite low considering the auction had a record number of bidders for a NameJet.com auction ever at 615 and there were 4 bidders at over $100K.

Its highly unusual for 3 bidders to drop out between $100K and $101,300.

There were 8 bidders of $50K or more in the auction.

In the poll that we just concluded only 5 people of out 66 said the domain would sell for $100K or under.

    bad idea sell it now

the final price is 5-10% the potential value (in my opinion, of course)

That was VERY cheap. I personally brokered Copies.com for $150,000 just last year.

The search numbers are better on the keyword “copies” than they are for “copy”, however, it is still one of the best domain brands I’ve seen come on the market in some time.

    I expected 20% – 50% higher.

I would pay $25 to the first one who can tell me who the bidder “beach1” is…(seriously)

I agree. A lower than expected price.

Whilst a lot of people saw the auction, I wonder if they were mainly domainers/investors?

…Probably didn’t get this domain in front of the right end user eyes.

    Wait…

Didn’t GRID.COM sell for $275,000 recently, at Sedo?

This Copy.com sale is really disappointing, imo.

very decent price at a domainer’s level , under current market conditions.

    Cheers

It’s bad idea to sell these domains on public auctions.

Wait for the end user or get lower money as 20%.
