SnapNames.com May Showcase Auction Closes Tomorrow & So Far Has No Bidders

May 9, 2011 by Michael Berkens

The SnapNames.com monthly showcase auction for May closes Tomorrow and so far there isn’t a bid.

The auction which features “Local Search and Real Estate” has about less than 100 domain names some with at no reserve, yet not one of the domains as of time of publication have bids on them.

I went through the list and found a few interesting domains and placed those on top, but the whole list appears below.

The star of the auction appears to be onlinemortgages.com but with a bid range of $100K-$250K I doubt you will see a sale.

Some of the reserves are really absurd, IHMO including starmap.com with a $100K-$250K range and Westcoast.Us with a $10k-$25K range.

Good luck to all

I was just going through that list, maybe their submissions have gone dry. These look like bottom-of-the-barrel domains…

too long names, for that prices, but westcoast.us is good

What a waste. I went through the whole list and there is just one worthwhile domain with a reserve of 2.5-5k. Even that won’t sell in this market.

    Today’s drops offer better domains.

  4. Rob Sequin says

    May 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm

No bids because the domains are crap and/or overpriced and people probably don’t want to do business with Oversee anymore.

    I wonder why…

I just ran a whois check on these 95 domains at auction:

    27 are owned by Oversee

15 are owned by iReit *

38 are owned by Yummy Names

    6 are owned by Register.com

That leaves 8 listed by individual owners.

You think there would be some disclaimer like “Some of these domains at auction are owned by the parent company of Moniker and Snapnames” but nope… no conflict of interest according to Oversee’s standards.

    * Let’s not forget that Moniker/Snapnames General Manager Craig Snyder was CEO of iReit while iReit was buying domains from shill bidder Nelson Brady.

I was hoping westcoast.us would have been 5k reserve, oh well.

  6. Alan says

starmap with a reserve of 100-250k is outrageous………no wonder no one is bidding!

    maybe Buzz Aldrin

Some decent domains with ridiculous reserves, some terrible domains not worth anything.

@ Rob Sequin, very good point, looks like a company/register/partner/buddy auction so either other people are just not submitting their domains for review or there’s a “slight tad” of favouritism going on…it can only be one or the other šŸ˜‰

…Looks like it may be another non-eventful auction…snzzz

  10. NameJr.com says

    May 9, 2011 at 3:08 pm

They should have the auction like sedo, where people can bid till the reserve is reached instead of starting on the reserve price. When people can bid from low $XX the battles start and the price goes up and up, maybe this should be taken into account for the Future Trend Auction.

    Only my opinion.

    Cheers

  11. Gazzip says

    May 9, 2011 at 3:15 pm

“They should have the auction like sedo,”

..Or they could stop their “partner” registers from holding back all the good dropping domains, then you will get the auctions again šŸ™‚

..but don’t hold your breath on that one šŸ˜‰

Those domains on that list are looking for dumb suckers to buy them…

They usually end up attracting couple of dumb suckers with money to burn to buy those worthless domains…but i guess people are getting smarter and brighter as days go by in the domaining world.

    @Rob
unbelievable! good detective work. Just show’s what self serving screwballs these people at Oversee’s are. It’s an exercise in futility submitting domains to them for their themed auctions (they never reply back). Word is out, these people are not to be trusted.

    Rob

    Those are pretty interesting numbers.

I may do a post about it especially the Oversee O and O names

I can run bulk lists and send you a spreadsheet if needed.

I use domain punch pro (I have no ties to the company). I use it every day and highly recommend it.

    http://www.domainpunch.com/products/domainpunch/

Also, might be interesting to see if Nelson Brady owned any of the oversee or ireit names but I don’t have a bulk whowas checker.

  16. Kevin Davis says

I wonder how many names in the upcoming live auction @ Domainfest will be bundled with the same so called partners.Last months auction was the writing on the wall imho.

  17. MHB says

    May 9, 2011 at 5:14 pm

    Rob

I used domainpunch until I switched to a Mac.

One of the downsides to the Mac is that the only program they make to run on it like it, is the DONA which I find to be very buggy and usually crashes on me 1/2 way through.

Does anyone have a list of the domain names that Mr. Brady won at his own auction?

  18. Rick Schwartz says

    May 9, 2011 at 5:57 pm

That seems more like “Spring Cleaning” than an auction. Good job Rob at uncovering their new high standards!

If those companies are going to push their own names to this extent, they need to state it publicly.

Oversee is over. Bankruptcy is the only way to solve a company reliant on a parking program to support it’s portfolio of now worthless names. If you were there you should be floating your resume. If you have assets there get them quick. You can laugh at me know as usual or let me through this comment back in your face when proven right a year from now, as usual.

    You guys are total morons.

If they want to sell their own domains in their own auction…let them…what’s the freaking problem…if you dont like the domain, dont bid.

The reason there are no bids is that there are no good domains on that list…it has nothing to do with oversee….if there were good domains listed for sale owned by oversee…greedy domainers such as yourselves would still bid…doesnt matter who the owner is or where it is being auctioned…people will bid on good domains period.

Rick sold flowers.mobi in his own auction…was that a problem…NO.

Domainers, you guys need to get a freaking life…stop making a big deal out of nothing!

Relax…go out and have some fun!

    Michael,

DONA was an old app developed ages ago for the PPC and we retired it. There is a proper Mac version of Watch My Domains in the Apple Mac Store now.

  25. dude says

    May 10, 2011 at 12:25 am

if you know how to use the command line…

a terminal program is already on every mac

osx gives you the freebsd userland.

seems crazy not to use it.

alas ignorance does run high, and rob sequin has a point. how many domainers participating in auctions know that the auctions include domains owned by the auctioneers? it seems reasonable that this should be disclosed to particpiants.

Anil I’ve tried the new Mac version on a demo basis of Watch My Domains and it’s buggy still. Mike can you let me know what you think of it.

  27. Anil Kumar says

    May 10, 2011 at 4:26 am

    Adam,

You must have tried it when it was in beta. It was submitted to the Apple store after all known bugs were fixed. Anyway, let me know if you notice any problems or if your evaluation has expired and need to extend it.

  28. MHB says

    May 10, 2011 at 9:30 am

I will get it from the app store today and give it a go

  29. MHB says

    May 10, 2011 at 9:32 am

    Dude

I use the terminal to do whois look ups all the time but and its great but you can only put in one domain at a time and to run through 95 domains its not the most efficient method plus the info doesn’t come back in a database or easy to use form but in the typical long version

I am trying to get my domain back and i have been researching the heck out of this. Not sure what to do. It was up for auction at Snapnames but I didn’t even know that it was there until after the auction closed. How would I find out if there were any bidders? When I look up my domain on Snapnames it just says closed and can’t be back ordered. Would Snapnames just release it? It says it’s pending deletion on another site. I have no way of knowing how long it will be pending deletion and whether I can try to register it after that period is over. Any help would be most appreciated! CM
