Is “Me” Becoming To Apps Like “i” Is To Products? Blip.Me, Play.Me, Caddy.Me, Flirt.Me, Tango.Me & Those Are Just One Owned By The App Developers

May 2, 2011 by Michael Berkens

.Me domain names are increasing being used for Apps and I would say are probably becoming the word of choice in naming Apps similar to how “i” has been used by Apple and other companies in the computer/Tech sector.

Blip.Me, Play.Me, Caddy.Me, Flirt.Me, Tango.Me are just a few of the Apps in which the developer also owns the matching domain.

We wrote about bit.ly new App News.me which just launched a couple of weeks ago.

The maker of Blackberry last week recently purchased the App Tungle.Me

Of course there are also a lot of Apps also named something …..me without the publisher owning the matching domains.

There are several “date me” apps,  “marry me” and “text me”apps,  for example, but I know the domain owner pretty well and the developer of the App doesn’t own the matching domain.

Likewise there are other Me Apps not owned by the App developer like “puzzle me”, “Trade me”, “Prank me” and “Strip Me” and “Talk To Me”

“Around Me” maybe the best known App ending in Me, but the domain Around.Me  is reserved by the registry as is Follow.me another popular App “follow me”

There is even Apps.me which “rates” the best smartphone apps.

There are App developers that use .Me domain names for there corporate site like Moop.Me and builditwith.me

I’ve registered PhoPay.me that stands for Pho(ne) Pay Me

No offense, but if you have to explain what PhoPay.me means, is it really that good? Why didn’t you just get PhonePay.me, which is available, and wouldn’t have to be explained? Still a bit wonky of a name, though. But who knows, maybe a company called PhonePay will come along and become hugely successful. Odds are against it, what with all the entrenched payment systems out there, but then you’ll have the last laugh. 😉

    @Alex

thanks for the suggestion but I think that PhonePay.me should be registered by you (if still available) since you have discovered it

about PhoPay.me there are three good reasons for this choice:

    1. because it’s shorter that PhonePay

    2. because it sounds like PayPal

    3. because it was available also with .com other TLD

that’s why I rgistered (and I sell) the full group of PhoPay domains for mobile/business payments with .com .me .mobi and .biz

    4. because I always believe that .com is the #1 TLD to register

PhonePay.me is still available. I just don’t want it. So it’s all yours, if you want!

Fooling around, I actually found another .me name that is actually kind of good. But I don’t like to register just “kind of good” names. Since the mid-’90s, I’ve only bought good names, that I have developed or intend to develop into quality websites. I was never looking into only investing in names, or parking them, but developing them. Worth far much more that way, especially once your traffic goes over that magic million visitor per month mark.

thank you very much Alex, I’ve just registered PhonePay.me

I like the “kind of good” names but I agree with you that it’s best to buy domains to develop successful websites

I too do both things, despite, so far, my websites haven’t reached the “million visitor per month mark”

Yes for some reasons extention must focus on something specific to get out of the tld crowd.
So if .me becomes apps stuff , it’s cool. Org is for organization, biz business…
What I see with .me it’s not just app but also anything innovating web (web 3.0?) that includes social, apps… see about.me it’s social.

I only have one domain .me : standout.me
