Cisco: 25 Billion Internet Users by 2025

September 21, 2010 by Michael Berkens

According to a study Conducted by Cisco Systems , the internet will grow to 25 BILLION users by 2025 and will produce $3 TRILLION in commerce.

The report says that in 1995 there were 16 million Internet users worldwide and today there are about 2 billion.

So the internet has grown 100x from 1995 to 2010.

So no one should we be surprised that values of domains rose drastically since 1995.

As one blog recently noted its was 1995 that Tv.com sold for $15K.

Now we all know Tv.com would be an eight or nine figure domain if it was available.

Although percentage wise the increase of users will not be as great, over the next 15 years, as the last 15 no doubt the addition of Billions of internet users over the years can do nothing but increase the value of domains.

Where are all these people going to come from?

Consider this, 15 years ago I was 36 and had never been on the internet.

Isn’t it fair to say that every kid by the time there 10 will no how to navigate around the net better than I could at 36?

The growth and impact of the internet is like nothing man has known and we have a front row ticket.

So, more internet users than human beings? Impressive.

    Kevin,

Don’t forget 18 billion Apes. They are our next target audience. πŸ™‚

There are 6 billion people in the world at this time.

So how will we have 25 billion internet users by 2025?

Are we going to have 25 billion people by 2025?

Perhaps cisco counted all the animals and chicken wishing they will start using web by 2025 πŸ™‚

    It could happen.

If every woman of child bearing age has at least eight kids in the next five years, and they all survive to the age where they’re able start using the internet, and they have access to the internet, and world poverty is solved, then it could happen πŸ™‚

Actually there are about 6.23 Billion people now. Who knows, if we can each pop out 4 kids in 15 years, we can get there.

The official world population forecast for 2025 is about 8 billion (UN Census). So we have 17 Billion unaccounted for internet users. These are the ones that will have been whisked off into space for further alien study by that time. Maybe internet will be accessible intergalactically?

But seriously I agree with MHB. There will be double the internet users in about fifteen years time and that bodes incredibly well for internet real estate holders.

This is why .CO is going to skyrocket in value. Anyone buying .CO s will reap huge returns in coming years, for sure.

    It sold in 1996.

Not trying to be technical, but I was there and that sale helped fuel my beliefs that domains are indeed worth something.

Now the last couple of days we got a few newbie domain bloggers saying Google Instant will kill generics, specifically long-tail generics…….LOL. πŸ™‚

What do these kid bloggers know? πŸ™‚

I just read the report. Very well done of course. They say 5 billion users. They also write some parts of the report as though it is 2025 so there are some very interesting insights in the report.

If you are going to be alive in 2025, read the report πŸ™‚

While the report is very interesting, there is just something they haven’t considered. We are using to much of the planets resources and have not yet found a way to completely stop relying on these resources like oil, gas and water.

With the way countries like the U.S. being so wasteful, it will be a wonder if humankind will even be able to see how the internet could possibly evolve at it’s full potential. Energy and how each of us could make a difference in not wasting it, is something we should keep in focus so we, our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to see what happens in the future.

    Of importance to some people…

Where are ALL those people PREVENTED from going ?

Being a Domainer in .VEGAS may require that you are in .VEGAS and Stay in .VEGAS

There are only a so many “front row seats” in .VEGAS

So the quality of life will only get better, families closer, outdoor play extended, good quality times πŸ™‚

    Oh wait…

Lately I am reflecting on what it is we spend our strength and time on, it’s rather sad. Don’t get me wrong ( not speaking to domainers ) but rather society as a whole. Nothing wrong with using the web to further education, pay a few bills. check sports scores, catch up on this and that, networking for biz etc but when it comes to consumer use we tend to forget what is going on around us. If we continue to have a mind set of spend, we will have a reality of poverty.

I am personally contemplating walking away from my computer for several months next year and enjoy life.

    Hold on.
25 billion users… but there are only about 6 billion people in the world (as of right now).
That is a hell of a population growth Cisco is expecting. Do they know something that we dont?
    Conspiracy theory maybe?

Just the way I see it.

Regardless of the numbers, Cisco is laying down the grid for all those potential internet users and creating the infrastructure for new technologies like interactive television. Surely they will be one of the winners in this internet numbers game. A lot of the new users will be in developing countries such as Africa, but I don’t think they will have much of an impact on internet commerce initially.

Still, the internet is one of the few industries that will continue to grow despite global economic downturns.

i believe we forget to realize that there will be connectivity built into everything so a shirt mught have its own unique IP in order to communicate with the dry cleaners or what ever else we think of as oppose to a car that will have its own ip and connects to your mobile device or the manufacture if the warranty is up. so i guess if you think of it like that there will probably around 25 billion devices/artificial intelligence including humans on the internet
