Quick Poll: Which Domain Priced $1 Million + Will Sell At DomainFest?

August 5, 2010 by Michael Berkens

I just ended the week long poll I was running on which domain you thought would sell at the live domain name auction at Domainfest, which will be held in New York on August 18th, of those domain names with a reserve price range of $500K-$1M .

Rate.com lead the way with 37% of you picking that domain as the one that will sell at Domainfest with 28% picking “none will sell”,  with StockQuotes.com right behind with 24% of the vote.

We’ll see how you did in a couple weeks.

This weeks poll is for the 12 domain names with a reserve range of $1 Million Dollars +

As always place your votes on the right (only 1 vote is allowed this time) and place your comments below.

patents.com $5MM and up
xxx.com $5MM and up
alcohol.com $1MM – $5MM
assurance.com $1MM – $5MM
byowner.com $1MM – $5MM
cable.com $1MM – $5MM
grant.com $1MM – $5MM
physicians.com $1MM – $5MM
program.com $1MM – $5MM
quotes.com $1MM – $5MM
stocks.com $1MM – $5MM
testing.com $1MM – $5MM

None of these have a chance at selling for $1 million except stocks.com. However, cable.com has considerable value.

To be honest, iam going with none. Only one maybe is byowner.com but you better have Berryhill in your roledex.

XXX.com is for certain over 1 mil. Stocks maybe.

    6 years ago, XXX.com would’ve been a no-brainer. Now? Not so much.

That list is full of some gold nuggets that would break a pack-mules back. I like Quotes.com, although Stocks.com is a behemoth too.

Anyone who know anything about ‘certian’ direct affiliate programs knows that a name like ‘quotes.com’ has potential to the moon, but there would have to be some marketing might behind it. It’s not a ‘buy and forget’ type name.

Cable.com is a sleeper if the right end-users are there and get testy about having it.

    My vote:

    1) None will sell
    2) Quotes
    3) Stocks
    Keep an eye on Cable.

Which one will A-1 acquire? None because the prices are to high for domain investors, and that’s who these shows cater to. There’s 0 end user reach.

Echoing some of you guys, assuming $1mm is the reserve, stocks.com is easily the star. Quotes.com might make an interesting portal for quotes on everything from insurance to mortgages, but the general public would probably associate it with famous quotes, etc…might be some good PPC on the latter, but the ROI would be in the decades.

Patents.com , because it comes with a fully-developed site – everything related to US patents.

    #1 Stocks.com
    #2 Quotes.com
    #3 Cable.com
    #4 xxx.com
    $5 program.com

I believe this is “assurance” and not “insurance”.

What I find funny is one of those on a roughly 20+ yr multiple is actually worth $1M, yet not one person yet has mentioned it. In fact I would venture to say one of the best names parked even.

Remember not too many years ago a good generic plus premium for rev ment 20++++ yrs.

    Guys

I also don’t you think you “assume” that domains that have a reserve range of $1M-$5M are at $1M.

They can well be at $2M, $3M or more

  16. Josh says

    August 6, 2010 at 11:25 am

True, this why none may sell for $1M lol

    I agree with Long.

You also referenced your vote results.
You further state that the voter can only vote once now.

I wonder how many voted twice or more and skewed the results?
    🙂

    Meyer

The first poll had 16 domains so we allowed 2 votes.

The last couple we have had less choices so we only allowed one vote.

In any event and it should be needless to say but this is not a scientific poll but something we put up to gauge the thoughts of the domain community.

    Stocks.com

I also like Patents.com but think the reserve is pretty steep.

But then if its a developed business there would be a different yardstick for evaluating it.
