Our Thoughts & Picks For The Live DomainFest Auction

May 12, 2010 by Michael Berkens

Tomorrow May 13th,  Moniker.com will be holding a Live domain auction at the one day Domainfest in Ftl. Lauderdale.

Remote bidding will be available on SnapNames.com

The auction starts at 4pm EST.

The auction is for only 122 domain or roughly half as many domains of past  Moniker.com TRAFFIC and Domainfest live auctions.

Out of the 122 domains up for auction 24 of them or 20% are have a reserve of at least $100K.

Here they are:
NewlyWeds.com                    $100,001 – $250,000

SpywareBlockers.com          $100,001 – $250,000

TreasuryBonds.com              $100,001 – $250,000

3dTVs.com                              $100,001 – $250,000

Detox.com                              $100,001 – $250,000

Townhouses.com                  $100,001 – $250,000

WebcamRoulette.com         $100,001 – $250,000

Arbitration.com                    $100,001 – $250,000

By.net                                     $100,001 – $250,000

Mediation.com                     $100,001 – $250,000

SecondMortgage.com          $100,001 – $250,00

BoardGames.com                 $250,001 – $500,000

Hologram.com                      $250,001 – $500,000

Hobbies.com                         $250,001 -$500,000

SingleWomen.com               $250,001 – $500,000

HardDrives.com                   $500,001 – $750,000

Karate.com                             $500,001 – $750,000

Code.com                                $750,001 – $1MM

CommunityCollege.com      $1MM – $5MM

Relationship.com                 $1MM – $5MM

Safety.com                              $1MM – $5MM

Dating.com                             $1MM – $5MM

Jeans.com                               $1MM – $5MM

Wifi.com                                 $1MM – $5MM

We are still running a poll on the right for you to pick which one has the best chance of selling but at the moment “none of the above” is winning (you still have time to vote).

Because of the limited inventory and the number of high priced domains, the success of the auction may well depend on whether one or more of these high priced domains sell.

There are plenty of category killer domains but I think most are going to need an end user to buy them.

Like those who have taken the poll, I like dating.com the best,  followed by boardgames.com, Karate.com and Hobbies.com.

I hate code.com, communitycollege.com, Safety.com, and Relationship.com at these levels.  I think Communitycollege.com is one of those rare brick and mortar “businesses” that do not translate to the internet.  Why would anyone want to do there online education at an online “community college”?  Guess it would be a nice name for a actual community college but not sure any of those have the budget for this domain.

WebCamRoulette.com is an interesting domain given the  success of ChatRoulette.com and the sale of CamRoulette.com earlier this year.

Of course the bidding on CamRoulette.com started at $10K rather than $100K, yet those who were in that auction and got outbid might circle around and come take out arguably the next best domain.

3DTVS.com is also an interesting and timely domain with the first of the 3DTVs are already hitting the shelves.  Plus several channels on Directv are going to be broadcast in 3-D starting with ESPN any day now.

As for the rest of the field here are my picks for the auction:

Gj.net No Reserve

Taunt.com is a cosmetics trademark. Should we take that issue into consideration?

Detox is a high paying keyword and taps into a generally higher end clientele. Celebrity and affluent detoxes are fairly abundant. Detox.com is in a price range that would make sense as an acquisition for a company working that territory.

I would not even pay $10,000 for CommunityCollege.com nor $10,000 for Relationship.com, or Code.com. Good luck to the sellers and I wish that well, that is just my opinion.

However, I don’t think a domainer would pay the reserve for Jeans.com but if I was the CEO of Levi, I would buy that name without a blink for $1 Million.

Dating.com could go either way. Must have a development plan to make it work. It’s a great name to start with.

    Thanks, Jim

How is relationship.com much worse than dating.com?

Relationship.com could at least become a brand. People date looking for a relationship.

Dating.com is the most over priced name in this auction.

VHS.com … a domain that looks at the future (after an alien attack)
