I voted for 4.tv but if I could add my own it would probably be rewards.tv @ $601

  2. Mike says

I think in the long run it may not matter much. It’ltake another 25 to 30 years before these are accepted by the public.

Hell, .com is still a cesspool. How could .tv even do anything worthy to challenge it?

  3. MHB says

    April 8, 2010 at 4:03 pm

    Mike

I really don’t think its going to take 25 to 30 years to be accepted by the public.

Not when outfits like MLB.tv, & Tnt.tv and MTV.tv are already using it and promoting it.

You might be right but in case you’re not, I have a taste.

    Mike,

Over in the UK, we see at least 5-6 ads using .tv everyday including huge companies like
    GM.TV
    Five.t
    Liverpoolfc.tv
    MU.TV + Many many more

Its only America that is lagging behind in accpetance of .tv imo.

Don’t forget UK night time Bid.TV

  7. tv says

Oh i voted for Japan.tv, i also think Germany was a great price too, but it wasn’t in the options.

Oh and how could i forget thise national sites news sites u.tv and stv.tv

  8. iBroker.TV says

    April 8, 2010 at 4:37 pm

    Oh, The poll.

Yeah, I voted Japan. We bid 9999 as our Max. Sad we couldn’t go higher. Bet you $10 buyer is Michael Bilyk

Instead we are going to take our 10 K and spend a year on the beach in Thailand. Every cloud has a silver lining 🙂

    @ibroker.tv

There are so many .tv sites i see everyday now its just become normal.

u.tv and stv.tv are also very popular national news sites

    Cable.TV
It’s also a great search phrase. On the other hand, I hope these dotTVs take off with the general public the way these investors are hoping. During Thanksgiving, I asked my 17 year old nephew about a new movie. He told me, “I saw it on cable.”

  12. Yaron says

    I like best.tv $1,150

  13. iBroker.TV says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:09 pm

    Well,

One reference by your nephew outstripped moderately by the 506,000,000 broad match monthly searches on Google alone.

Not including use in global culture as a whole.

We’re glad you’ve brought your nephew in to the argument though. Really helps drive your point home.

But lets not start the whole for/against conversation here 🙂

  14. Aron says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Bummer, no one has named the one we bought 😉

NO, it wasn’t a big one though.

  17. Domo says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    call me crazy..
But on the hands of a Prodeveloper my vote for business.tv ,
but if it was for recycling purposes..good luck.

  18. Aron says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:38 pm

    Mr. T

Definitely was a little battle for mine:

    Scores.tv

I wanted to jump in with a lower cost one,
and Scores and TV go together.

    Could be a fun project.

Already paid in full… just waiting on the transfer.

    Aron

  19. Mr T says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Nice pickup Aron, good luck with that name. Any plans for it?

I picked up a similar name during the goldrush period, results.tv – but I dropped it due to the pretty steep premium reg fee ($1300).

Btw, your domain wasn’t the one I was looking for so I’ll have to continue my quest 🙂 Thanks for sharing though.

  20. Aron says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:46 pm

    Mr T

    Thanks.

Good luck in the search 🙂

I was happy to get one on the lower end, and the only topic that really interests me from the list was Scores…. since I’m a sports nut.

  21. Jim Holleran says

    April 8, 2010 at 5:55 pm

I thought Cable.tv, Golfing.tv, 2.tv, 3.tv, 4.tv. 5.tv might of been the best buys of the auction. However, if I had to pick one, I agree with David, it’s Cable.tv.

    Thanks, Jim

This was a great auction confirming that the .tv has legs.

Personally, I think the .tv extension will have one of the highest ROI’s in the next 3-5 years. It is inevitable that once the visibility of this extension by big business begins, it’s ease of association to video by consumers and future bandwidth expansion, particularly 4G mobile/iPad, will only drive this extension upward.

We made the investment in savvy.tv. Curious to ask what others may think this is worth, based on the results of Sedo’s auction.

    Earl

  23. Rob Lafaye says

    April 8, 2010 at 6:56 pm

I’m not sure I see it — maybe it’s me (and I’m not being sarchastic). However, if the iPhone made .mobi useless, with few exceptions, then why wouldn’t the iPad make .tv basically unnecessary the same?

I just don’t see how the “brand” .com will need to be replaced when you can stream .tv from inside it. Sure, there are exceptions and it’s not a matter of the U.S. lagging behind anyone on anything. I’ve been reading comments about the “U.S. thinking .com” is everything but it really has nothing to do with the U.S. per say. Sure it’s the most popular extension — because it was the first.

    @Earl
As for savvy.tv it’s probably worth about as much to you as my bandwagon.tv is to me.

None of this is to say that there isn’t value in some .tv names but like Owen has said in the past, if you don’t own a library of video it’s not likely you’ll be able to monetize the site sufficiently to support it.

  24. Domo says

    April 8, 2010 at 7:01 pm

The fundamentlas haven’t change a bit.

I do agree this is was a “much needed” shot in the arm for the extension at the reseller level (Greater “than me” fool Theory ‘ players) , I think the reseller market will reactivate a bit for the next few months and that’s about it ,watch for a few sales in the upcoming weeks/months until the smoke dissapears back to basics …
For the people that had premium names or great keywords now for a long time..”how come you never truly developed them”? That is the true and only way top show the world what are they’re good for…
More than ever I pair .tv to .info both in pricing and outlook…
(Remove business.tv and what do you have…?)
    Best of Luck.
    Domo

On a side note this is one of my favorite developed .tv domains.

You would lose the $10 BET ibroker.tv. The winner was Antonis Polemis who owns several .tv including online.tv.

I would go with David on Cable.tv that or I really like the single number 2.tv 3.tv 4.tv and 5.tv. I sold six.tv for $25,000 3 years ago.

  30. MHB says

Very eloquent, but a simple “I didn’t like any of the buys” would have been sufficient

  31. The Dot Stop says

These are some that I think were great deals and will have an incredible ROI.

wow.tv $5,700 – I seriously thought this would be in the Top 5, LOL

streaming.tv $4,400 I love this one, I believe we will hear about a huge mid $xx,xxx+ sale on this baby one day within a year or so.

cable.tv $4,000 – I think this was the best buy of the whole auction! IMO

    network.tv $3,300 – Another great deal, IMO

bargain.tv $950 – Great deal, I wasnt even looking at this one or I woulda grabbed it.

tunes.tv $500 – Mine, One day you will hear of a $xxx, xxx sale with this baby! LOL

“simple “I didn’t like any of the buys” would have been sufficient”

I do not see this option in the poll, that’s the point. If such option would be there, it would have most votes by now, imho

  33. Jim Holleran says

    April 9, 2010 at 12:29 am

    @sdfsdf

I think we should have a poll from 1-10 on when the last time you had a “brain”

  34. sdfsdf says

    April 9, 2010 at 12:34 am

    @ Jim Holleran

To your disapointment I would still win as 10, because there is more common sense people out there than you would wish. The thing is that people who are fanatics into something tend to give their opinions most often (and try to belittle people who do not agree with them). People who think just “Oh, bollocks” – they just close the browser window and move on to read something else.

I am not a big fan of dot TV. They screwed a lot of people with their high annual renewal fees with their recent price drop. Now they’re selling them all over again. If the previous owner doesn’t want to pay the same annual renewal fee as previous, they lose the name? Sounds a bit unfair to me. Investment or not, moral ethics come into play and dot TV to me STINKS.

But call me a hypocrite, I did pick up one dot TV for $35/yr – HackMy.TV

What are your thoughts about Black.TV?

  37. MHB says

    April 9, 2010 at 9:19 am

    Peter

Personally I don’t like it at all, but one of the big South Florida domainers that I talked to yesterday really likes it.

    So goes the domain business

  38. Peter says

    April 9, 2010 at 9:33 am

I bought it for the possibility of “Black Television” like a BET online. IMO, there will be big money in this arena for development purposes.
If your domainer is interested, I would consider an after market offer.

  39. Gazzip says

    April 9, 2010 at 10:44 am

Depending on if you mean best buy for resale or best buy for development?…

I’ll go with Japan.tv (+ Germany.tv) best for both development and resale

Business.tv & Home.tv best for development potential to the right enduser

    I voted Japan.tv ( I prefer geo’s) 🙂

  40. The Dot Stop says

    April 9, 2010 at 12:15 pm

    @ Peter,

    Congrats!

    I had Black.tv for a while yesterday…
then your budget kicked my budgets ass, and won! lol

Hey, I really think that is a phenomenal domain, and there is no way I would ever part with that for less than $xx,xxx.

Black has so many meanings it’s sick!

But yes, I agree It is a domain that will most likely fetch a BET type of end user.

February is Black History Month so from a Marketing standpoint,
I would pitch it right around then. The hype and hoopla surrounding that proud time of theirs, could fetch you an additional “zero” on your final sales price. IMO.

I would wish you good luck, but you don’t need it with that domain.

    Take Care,
    Vito.

  41. Jim Holleran says

    April 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm

    @Peter

It’s funny but at first I did not get the big “hoopla” with Black.tv and then I realized BET, among other things, and I think you may have a big winner here.

Looking forward to seeing what comes of it, have tremendous development potential, and if you do the right marketing to the “black” market/media there can be a big end user sale down the line. Keep us posted and congradulations.

    Thanks, Jim

I think you all have some strange picks.

I believe the .TV extension will take off; it is ideal for television on the internet. There will be thousands of television networks online.

In my opinion, the best names encompass genres that one can create television network around. For this reason, I believe business.TV has the most relevance and is self explanitory. The only thing I have a problem with is its renewal rate.

  43. MHB says

    April 11, 2010 at 11:08 pm

    John

There is just a normal renewal fee for all of these domains that sold at auction.

  44. Anonymous says

    April 11, 2010 at 11:39 pm

Cable.tv is already an anachronism. In ten years the word cable in association with television will be like vinyl, record or album is now in association with music. The future of television is online and on mobiles. .TV is a good extension for any multimedia website. Unlike .biz, “tv” is universally recognized even in countries that don’t use the Latin alphabet.

  45. Aron says

    Anyone else get theirs yet?
