    IMO

    Best Steals:
    – Schoolloans.com – Hands down. Comes with website and only cost 3.8x revenue

    Most Overpaid:
    – Thebronx.net – $5k – huh? enjoy that 1 type-in per month
    – 247live.com – PPC monster!
    – Figuratively.com – This is just aweful. What the heck do you do with this?? Only $1k and waaaaay over-paid
    – Halp.com – Halp! I just wasted $2k!
    – 900.com – huh? 900 of what? And for $40k???
    – UTN.com – $10k – alot for a 3 letter with limited google results

Note, I like the geos, RIO.com and hackensack.com, but I think they sold at market value.

I missed most of the auction. Wondering if the Castello brothers picked up the Whiskey.com name?

Aunt.net sold on Bido for 1000$, lost 20% here.

    .

the RIO.com price seems too low if we consider that Brazil will hold the 2016 Olympics

Agree with DCMike. Buying a $3K/mo turnkey business for $137.5K is a steal indeed.

I think for lead generating site almost 4 years projected earnings is actually quite good price. It is no real company

  8. Brandon says

writers.net was a steal considering it makes $22,000 through adsense each year and it has an established forum.

What do you guys think of senseofhumor.com, fair value?

“What do you guys think of senseofhumor.com, fair value?

I am not sure what I think of senseofhumor.com at 2K. In that price range I kind of like filetmignons.com and ciders.com better. These are names are tied to actual products that can be sold and seem like they would be easier to monetize more quickly. Filetmignons.com actually reminds me of a post on toomanysecrets.com earlier this year (http://toomanysecrets.com/development-newyorkstripcom/).

Some of the other names in the $2K-$3K price range I question. What do you do with nudged.com or cultivating.com. I know they are one word names I just can’t put my hands around how you would monetize these names. Bringing it back to senseofhumor.com, I think it would serve well as play on pranks (i.e. youtube streams of punked type videos).

@demike77 – agree about SchoolLoans – great buy! But that may not be 3K EVERY month! Maybe 2-3 months of the year? Fall/Spring registration months?

@M.Menius – the Castellos unfortunately didn’t get that one!

@Brandon – was Writers.net a pass? Didn’t realize that it had sold. But if it did, and it makes that kind of dough, a good deal for the buyer as well.

900.com was a several auctions in the past and went unsold although I think the price was a little higher before

The Castello brothers were bidding on Whiskey.com but stopped just short of the selling price.

Porn.co.za $45,000, was interesting to see a .co.za sell for this price, a record for a .za domain?

Megan.com $42,500 seemed to go for more than I expected. Some other more popular first names have sold for less in recent auctions.

Rio.com was very tempting, not only holding the 2016 Olympics but also the 2014 World Cup.

You have to seriously develop it and cannot park for even a day due to many trademark issues.

  12. dcmike77 says

    October 28, 2009 at 1:34 am

    @brandon

Senseofhumor seems a little high only because monitizing it would be difficult. But the brandability is good.

  13. Brandon says

writers.net was a pass but at the reserve price it was a bargain. I agree with you dcmike77.

I bid that up to 8k back in the summer. Thought it was a fair price back then

    “SaddamHussein.com $2,000”

If anyone needs a reminder of how quickly the world can change, and how an asset can quickly lose its value simply because of time and shifting perceptions of ‘value’…this sale is that reminder.

i own diamondgallery.net on Sedo for just 1.500. That´s a big difference with the 18000 PinkDiamond.com got on there. Just because it is .com? Lucky them.

sorry if out of subject but my “adults auction” begins today at 7:00 PM GMT – 11:00 AM PST into my web site. Prices from 9.500 to 300 and less.

I did bid for SandyBeaches.com on behalf of a client but once it was above $1300, I have to stop, After that price I consider it at over priced. It was listed on sedo some months back, I can’t recall the price then.

but, I doubt, that, the “potential’s user” (as “personal website”) could update the site’s blog…

Pinkdiamond.com sold to myself and Rick Schwartz.

An hour after the auction Rick turned down and offer for $38K.

    Crazy business

@shiphouse – I thought cultivating.com was maybe the best bargain of all. In British English to cultivate = to grow, especially in agriculture and gardening. The word frequency is tiny in Google, so I guess it is not used this way internationally, but I think there are enough farmers or gardeners in the UK alone to make this a bargain (to the right person).

    Mike,
I’m sure you won’t mind if I post my domains for sale in your comment section everyday.
Do you mind if I also include some affiliate links too.
    🙂

People, you are not going to sell your mediocre domains by posting them on Mike’s blog. So, please stop being rude to Mike and his readers.

@ Well it may be worth that… you can never miss with diamonds

I would have sold though at 38k

1 question for you and Rick. I assume you follow the Greatdomain auctions… why didn’t you buy it back then for less then 10k?

  25. Chris Guthrie says

I’m confused. I thought there was going to be an internet auction for most of these domains tomorrow?

Is that not the case now?

  26. Chris Guthrie says

    October 29, 2009 at 1:29 am

Also, as a side note it appears as though most of you know what’s up when it comes to domains.

Are there any domain conventions in Seattle, WA? I’d love to meet most of the people that I’ve just been silently reading their blogs for several months / years in some cases.
