October 11, 2009 by Michael Berkens

We often, cite and generally ridicule large company’s that just don’t get the domain space.

So we have to give props when we find companies that “Get It”,  as we say in the domain world.

Take the case of 1800contacts.com.

Of course they own the other possible typos of 1-800Contacts.com, 800Contacts.com, 1800Contact.com and 1-800Contacts.com,  but what’s gets them into the “Get It” ranking, is that they also own the category killers; Contacts.com, Glasses.com and ContactLenses.com

That makes quite the trifecta.

All the domains go to the 1-800contacts.com site and Compete.com ranks the site as getting over 400,000 visitors a month and Alexa ranks it as the 36,000 most visited site on the net.

    I didn’t miss it.

It was covered by plenty of domain blogs and other sources.

I try not to repeat stories that are already out there

but, things like this, happen one time per decade… it’s like the “end of the world in 2012″… it will happen just ONE time, so, if you’ll miss the news, you’ll not have a second chance to post it… 🙂

Elliot released the story on insure.com and did a great job covering it.

Once a story hits the domaining.com wire, I do not cover it again unless I have a new take or slant on the story.

I simply choose to let the originator of the story get the full attention their story deserves.

I think this is the business That JoeE (Joe Elkind) sold before he got into the adult business with John Bennett back in 1996. Which would explain them owning all the variables.
