A .TV Domain Becomes An Actual TV Show

June 18, 2009 by Michael Berkens

702.tv is not only launching as a website, but as an actual broadcast Television show by the same name. (702 is the area code for Las Vegas).

The site and show is owned by the Greenspun Media Group, which owns the Las Vegas Sun and Las Vegas Weekly

The show is launching on a twice-weekly schedule, airing at 10:30 p.m. (PST) Tuesdays and Thursdays on Vegas TV and on  Cox cable.

The program will go to five days a week in the fall.

The show is described by Rob Curley, president and editor of Greenspun Interactive, as “If The Daily Show, the Travel Channel, the Food Network and E! were to try to do a daily local show in Las Vegas”.

The show will feature stories about interesting places to eat and air interviews with local artists and the celebrities who come through the city. 702.tv also will emphasize coverage of UNLV sports and of Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts and fighters.

“702.tv is designed to work on multiple platforms,” he said. “You can watch it on local TV. You can go to the Web site and watch whatever segment you want. You can get it on YouTube. It works on your iPhone, and it works on devices like Apple TV.

“The show is completely reverse-engineered from the Web. All the segments are three- to four-minute Web clips that get edited down to go to TV.”

Nice to see a major media company getting the importance of incorporating the domain into mainstream media.

Good boost for the .tv extension

This is interesting. A multimedia, synergistic approach built around .TV. I hope this is the first of many more to come. There are several “sleeping giant” extensions and .TV is one of them.

    Greenspun also owns: LAS.TV.

For (3+) years I’ve been screaming this from roof and mountain tops. DOT TV is the future of multi-media content creation, delivery, distribution, and syndication. They don’t “NEED” your DOT COM domain for 7 figures anymore. Another “GLOBAL” viable and exciting brand is here — and very alive to those willing to research. I’ve uncovered a huge amount of International (million and billion dollar companies) throughout Asia…, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Australia, …etc.

“Sleeping giants”, …yes, plenty of them.

HamptonRoads.TV (Landmark) is another example of “smelling the coffee” aka…”opportunity-in-time” to capitalize. Guess what. They own: Virginia.TV, Hampton.TV, Norfolk.TV, Baltimore.TV, Richmond.TV and more. Their former “Digital Executive” is the proud owner of: Seattle.TV, LittleRock.TV, Syracuse.TV, Atlanta.TV, Tampa.TV, Memphis.TV, and more…

ABC affiliates own: Nebraska.TV, Macon.TV, and Spokane.TV. The media-powerhouse Gannett owns; QueenCity.TV (historical name) for Charlotte and Cincinnati. Morris Communications owns Augusta.TV and several others. LIN Television, owns the developed “UsaPolitics.TV” and hundreds of DOT TV domains for future launch…

These bits and pieces are NOT “news” folks, as there are plenty of DOT TV (international) developments, investment rounds, and sales happening each and every quarter that do not make headlines. The reality is the “domain name industry” for one reason or another has been very, how should I say this, …”casual and periodic”…about reporting DOT TV info, stats, sales, and FACTS. But we’ve allllll been down that path of discussion, lets not open it back up.

In any event, the future is now. To those who stuck their noses to the sky at DOT TV, it will be a painful “catch up game” for many and most.

Over the last few years the .Tv extension has went through a massive period of growth with the number of excellent developed sites rising all the time by major brands & new Start Ups who see .Tv’s as a great way to get a top domain without the massive prices it would take to get the .com

To get a small glimpse into some of the great new Developed .Tv’s worldwide then take a look at http://www.Development.tv & click onto the Developed .Tv sites section.
