AfterMarket.com Auction: Our Picks & Analysis

February 19, 2009 by Michael Berkens

Aftermarket.com will hold a live domain auction from the  Domainer Mardi Gras show, in New Orleans on Saturday February 21st at 3:45pm EST, 12:45 PST.

Remote bidding will be available for those not in attendance.

According to my records, storagefacility.com sold for $18,000 at TRAFFIC West in 2008.  I don’t know if the domain sale closed and if its the new owner or original owner selling it, but in either event, its a domain which is priced 20% of what is sold for less than a year ago, making it a top pick.

Medicaltextbooks.com looks like a no-brainer at $1K reserve, with over 256,000K direct Google results with ads.

DCW.com is a good three letter domain which should sell for more than its modest reserve of $5K.

Couple.org at zero reserve is a definite seller.

Businessproblem.com and businessproblems.com at zero reserve are also definite sellers.

Workprograms.com should draw some interest, especially in this day and age, at zero reserve.

Jobless.com seems very appropriate for these times, and a good buy at $10K.

Candycane.com is not only a christmas fixture but also the name of a famous pornstar.

Dreamy.com seems like a good domain for a dating site, citing the popularity of Mr. McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy and use of the term in relation to a good looking, great guy.

There are other good buys as you can see from the list below.

Yes there are some crappy and overpriced domains, like in any auction.

Voodoo.com according to a press release today, presumably by the owner of the domain, makes $1,000 a month parking, so basically asking for 25 years of revenue for a domain is clearly no bargain.

Favorites.com also seems way overpriced at $500K, getting an estibot appraisal of $100K.

DnSales.com, in my opinion, has no meaning apart from dnjournal.com and Ron Jackson’s often sited weekly sales report.  If I missing something then I apologize in advance, but if the domain’s only value is to tag off of Mr. Jackson site, I do not think it should even be offered in a venue such as this.  Let’s not start feed off of each others goodwill.

Now back to the positive.

We have analyzed the list using our friends at Estibot to help, and believe the following domains are the best buys from the auction.

We wish all bidders the best of luck and if you attending the show, throw some beads for me and I expect some pictures (just to disclose we have no domains for sale in this auction):

Again, I’m not impressed. Poor quality.

Gocarts.com and medicaltextbooks.com are the only ones I like.

Great poat moke Never really associated dnsales with ron. Many domain sites use the dn prefix If you sell domains this seems like a great name for that use to me. Maybe MWD can become Dnsales 😉

15 of 51 names have met reserves johnny what would impress you? 100% ? Some people just can’t be pleased.

I like Jobless best; a slew of valuable, $$$ making products & services could be offered on such a site.

Anything less than 25k’s an absolute steal.

Are your appraised values retail to end users, seem a bit high.

@Johnny: Aftermarket actually wanted me to go to no reserve on MedicalTextbooks.com; I dropped it down to $1K instead. Still (IMHO) far below what it should sell for.

@Phil: Just because domains are offered with no reserve, that doesn’t mean they’ll be bargains, as most of the ones you mentioned will certainly be bid up to substantial prices.

Nice! . That’s better than most other auctions ratios and the live hasn’t even started. There’s bargains to be had at this auction for sure.
