August 24, 2008 by Michael Berkens

The .Me auctions are starting to wind down.

At this point there have been 1143 domains sold for $100 or more in the auction period:

The total sales from these 1143 domain is just under $2 Million.

For a complete list of all the 1143 domains click here: (excel file)

me-over-100

As for current auctions here are the only ones over $1,000:

sync.me          $40,005
verify.me        $12,000
star.me           $6,015
massage.me   $5,705
sex4.me         $4,175
carparts.me    $4,012
edit.me           $3,605
photos.me      $3,560
parts.me         $3,155
kia.me            $3,106
macworld.me  $3,005
celebrate.me   $3,005
hawaii.me       $2,606
chocolate.me  $1,417
britneyspears.me  $1,201
birthday.me       $1,005

Of course none of these include the thousands of domains that the registry held back to be auctioned off in the future.

Once again I expect to see the first of these at the Moniker NY TRAFFIC auction

    Yay!

I snagged writer.me ($205.00) and am planning to develop a social network site for writers. I think it was a small investment, given that “writer” is a targeted and high-performing keyword with great money-making capabilities.

Overall, I have a good gut feeling about .me; I have a small humor site (snark.me), and Google has already included it in its search engine. It’s not ranked high yet, but time will tell.

Evidently Google likes the “me” simple as a keyword.

Also, the .me registry seems to be well-run; their site explains (in great detail) how premiums would be held back for a future auction (nothing secretive) and how landrush names would be assigned and/or auctioned off.

One thing though: the registry should have pulled those obvious TM domains (toyota.me) because that guy in Brazil who has it parked will probably lose it via URDP.

Moniker NY TRAFFIC is not accepting the .ME extension for the upcoming auctions (as far as I know — PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong).

Also, Toyota in the United States is a brand. In Japan it could be a variation on a surname (Toyoda), maybe like Thompson or Phillips. The Toyota motor company was run for a very long time by… guess who… the Toyoda’s. Whoever got Toyota has a good chance of keeping it imo (and the money). Btw, Toyoda.me is available.

    David

I believe Moniker.com will be auctioning off the first of the registry owned reserved .me domains.

I do not believe they are accepting domains from individuals that have already been allocated.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how long the reserved/premium auctions will last… I’m hoping that they’ll be live and not in this 24-hour lead change format. Thousands of premium name auctions going… going… going… still going… maybe they’re planning an co-branding with Energizer… still going…

Well the one’s at moniker.com will be live and go in a few minutes.

The ones they run in house will be in the same format as the other .me auctions.

Just a note… it’s 9/1. The .ME auctions are STILL NOT OVER! Can they go any slower?
