GoDaddy Extends the Closing .ME Auctions an Extra Day

July 23, 2008 by Michael Berkens

I have gotten several noticed today about some domains I am tracking in the .me auction.

For some reason not explained in the e-mail, Godaddy has extended the closing of several domain auctions that was suppose to close today until tomorrow.

Here is one of the notices I received:

Dear Valued .ME Auction Customer,

The closing time for the auction of ride.me has been extended. Please note the revised close date and current price below:

Domain Name: ride.me
Current Price: $1,000
Close Date: 07/24/2008 22:07 PM UTC

That all I got.  There is no explanation of why the auctions got extended.  There did not seem to be any down time for the auction site and the bidding is very robust on several of the domains, including why.me which is currently up to $4,506, insure me which has hit $20K and ski.me which is at $3,500.

Hopefully the auctions weren’t extended just to give everyone more time to boost the prices up.

The way the folks at .ME explained it to me was that if a bid is made within a certain amount of time prior to the closing date, the auction will be extended 24 hours.
