Screw.Me

July 17, 2008 by Michael Berkens

So we applied for 150 .me domains with Godaddy which should have been awarded before the landrush today (or put into auction) and out of those we got the grand total of:

zero

that would be none, nothing, zipo.

We did get a notice that we would be in an auction for 31 domains 2 days ago, but some of domains seemed to have gotten registered today by someone.  Some of the auctions are suppose to start as early as July 21, four days from now.

So we got your basic cluster *uck.

Got three e-mails from my Godaddy rep. one of which that said:

“”””Just a little heads up that a lot of domains are showing available today and allowing people to register them. Not all the domains are actually available and hopefully the registry gets in sorted asap.”””””

What exactly does that mean, I have no idea other than confusion reigns and we will have to wait to see how it washes out.

There is already an article by the Washington Post talking about the domains watch.me and hug.me (2 on my list as well) that seem to have been awarded to several people each,  instead of going into the contested auction pool.

We will keep you posted, but with hundreds of new extensions on the horizon this one is messy.

Yes but Godaddy is the sponsoring registry of the extension not just one of the registrars handling the new extension.
