Pizza.net going for 1million + That must be a super supreme pizza with all the toppings including caviar.

Great post and response by Alan.

The sale page says “The ORIGINAL Pizza Search Engine It includes 60k pizza restaurants, Prior art to Microsoft’s zip code patent”.

It seems that they are selling off more than a domain.

I let a few good names expire back in the early 2000’s because of the stigma attached to .Net the whole belief that it’s for networking, computers, etc… blah!

This would be a great opportunity to shatter that myth and prove that a generic domain is valuable, at least in the original 3 extensions.

I think this is an over reaction to how much Pizza.com sold for last week. I would value a .net as 1/20th the value of the same .com.

I thought whomever purchased Pizza.com for under $3 million got deal. But But Pizza.net looks way overpriced in my opinion.

    Gabe

As our post talked about last week, there was no reason that pizza.cm should have sold for less than porn.com did last year.

Pizza sold for less than the cost of one superbowl commercial.

I think the real value of pizza.com was in the 8 figures.

$1m as a defensive registration could be a possibility.

    pizza.mobi
1-pizza.com (looks like a phone number)
1-74992.com (spells pizza on a keypad)

    It never ends…

Maybe sedo should “qualify” bidders first when people bid above 50k then they would not have this problem of bidders making fake bids on lets say a .net name. 🙂

Pizza.com, has this sale been finalized by sedo? Anybody have an idea who it is? It would horrible if they backed out would not make sedo look good. “Qualify all bidders” Not sure why they do not do this. It will back fire one day on them.

    Admin,

Totally agree with you on the fact that Pizza.com If should’ve been an 8 figure sale.

But 7 figures for the .net – very pricey. It’s tough to establish a brand on a .net nowadays. I know my first reaction when I see a company’s url that ends in .net is that this company must be junior varsity. They automatically lose credibility since they don’t have the .com.

If this sale does go through (I have some doubts) it would more than double the highest price .net previously sold (sex.net – $450K and porn.net $400K) that I know of.

Any one else know of another .net selling for higher?

Pizza.net is more than just a domain name. It is a website, database of more than 60,000 restaurants, and most importantly it has ‘Prior Art’ to the Microsoft Patent on zip code searches.

Pizza is the most eaten, ordered and purchased food in the world.

In my opinion- whoever bought Pizza.com should buy Pizza.net as an insurance policy- as well as the ability to seriously corner the whole Pizza Search market. Give Yahoo a run for its money!

Pizza.com went for a song- and Pizza.net is the lyrics to that song.

Everyone roots for the underdog and loves to see them come out on top. More than that- it is a smart and solid business decision to acquire both domain names!

    Pizzagirl:

All kidding aside, I would assume by your ecstatic evaluation of Pizza.net that you are somehow connected to the site. I was in the music business for years and I can assure you that only family or girlfriends write reviews like that.

I’ve noticed that the bid is now at $1,125,005 and it still has not hit the reserve. Besides the fact it would be a world record sale for a dotnet (even with the database and “prior art” – whatever that means), only one of two things is really happening.

Either these are fraudulent bids trying to drive the price closer to the world record reserve, or Santa Claus has arrived early and the Pizza.net family will have pizza for life.

For the sake of the integrity of our industry, I sincerely hope it is the latter.

    David

Agree with you here, Pizza girl definitely has some involvement with the current owner.

TDNAM system has no transparency at all.

All we know is the number of bids, not how many bidders there are.

Since as you point out, the bidding on this name is already 3x more than any previous .net sale, so its hard to understand the basis on what the seller set the reserve at.

As I have said before, I do believe that pizza.com should have sold in the 8 figures however even so, porn.net which sold for $400K against the porn.com sale of 9.5 million, would make a $1M sale of pizza.net look likes a lot of dough.

  17. Steve M says

    April 10, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Hmmmm….according to pizza.net, it seems there’s no pizza places within 60 miles of my zip code (well; other than the 100 the phone books say are, of course)…

Anyone can make available a database of thousands of any kind of eating establishment, retailer, etc; but what really matters is how many of them are paying customers, and/or the actual revenue the site is generating…

As for their system being prior art to one of MS’s patents (meaning how they do what they do could be used to invalidate one or more of the claims contained within such patent because they were the first ones to come with it), there’s no value there, either, as prior art of this nature (presuming they don’t have a patent with a filing date before MS’s filing date backing their prior art us); being in the public realm; is worthless.

So; while I too wish them the best, if they can get even 500k for pizza.net, they should take it and cash the check…before the buyer wakes up.

    So funny- you guys!

A girl who loves pizza and just wants to see the auction go well – is sleeping with the owner. Typical males! 🙂 Always comes down to sex with you guys!

Anyway- I agree, that I hope for the industries sake, GoDaddy, TDNAM and everyone involved the bids are real. Otherwise that could be a real bummer for everyone involved.

More importantly- I still stand by the fact it is a good solid business decision to have both domain names and OWN the pizza search marketplace.

Pizza.com could have AND should have sold for a lot more- so, it is conceivable that some lucky, extremely smart bidder could pick up both for the price of one! Better than any Pizza Hut offer I have come across! 🙂

I am rooting for Pizza.net, because I know that this will change the way.net domain names are looked at in the future- and that is good for everyone in this business.

So, one person or groups success is success for us all.

Everyone think positive thoughts- and let the highest bidder win. Lets hope for GoDaddy’s sake that these bids are real- otherwise this could really hurt their attempt to enter into the domain name auction arena.

    I still say- GO PIZZA.NET!!!!!

Of course she has nothing to with pizza.net, that is why when you click pizzagirl just above her posts, it goes to pizza.net. Also Big Cheese go to pizza.net also.

I think she forgot to put a fake email in when she decided to post here. ahhh haaa.

Value of pizza.net to me is about 5 to 8% of whatever pizza.com sells for. And that is if Pizza.com still sells and funds.

It is still a .net or marsh land compared to beach front property.
