I was bid #1 and will most likely be the first loser on pawn.org. I like the name more for personal reasons…I am a pawn junkie and used to go 4x a week to pawnshops in my local town between the ages of 14 and 18.

So, rudkipps – whoever you are…stop bidding and let this “kid” spend $3200 to complete the story.

Rudkipps is the guy who out bid me on the names I was interest in as well.

I’m guessing at the usual suspects, hitfarm, frank, bonkers.

yeah, bonkers kills me often. have not ran into benfranklin lately. hope your auctions go well. i think i will be 1 for 2.

I seriously wish I did not like “pawning” as I do not go after .org names and know I will have a bittersweet win/lose feeling regardless of win or loss.

I have a great knack for being the first loser and making a few extra hundreds/thousands for the seller. The beauty of an auction.

Question…don’t have to answer if you do not want to, but just curious on your tactic…I am sure you bid mostly last day, but do you like final 5-10 minute range or have you placed bids yourself.

Share after the fact if you want and if you decline, I understand. I do both, but have bid ours already today.

Auctions are cool – yet frustrating – and exciting. I am watching happybirthday.org too…I am not bidding. I personally do not like the domain other than there are huge “happy birthday” searches and for that reason, it could present solid value.

But, since I have not bid I can’t see who is bidding on it. I love to see the bids and who is in there. It is usually the same people and they often fall in the same order. Manytimes, I bid just to be in early and see the bidding…and yes, I have been stuck with a name 1x that I did not want – employeeparking.com – but it was my error – or maybe part of the game.

I believe it is fair that in order to see the bidders you have to be bidding, but I wish I were able to be excepted from the policy, just for inside info.

    Greg

We usually put our best price in in the last hour or two then call it a day.

We used to bid at the last minute but i think that gets you wrapped up in auction fever and you wind up overpaying, or at least paying more than you budgeted or wanted to pay.

Like everything else in the business there are many different ways of doing it, none are right or wrong, but you have to find your comfort level and find what works the best for you.

I think you have the right approach. I bid pawn.org to $3600 and was not High Bid but the bid stayed at $3600 – same as rudkipps I am sure. Yet, for purely a childhood passion I still enjoy, I stuck to my $3600 and let it go though $3700 MAY have gotten it. PAWN.org is over.

Just got outbid on our other name too…I want this name purely for an SEO test. I think I will bid to budget on this one and call it a day.

It looks as though out SEO test will occur. I “ponied up” $300 more than desired, and outlasted joesilver for Desktops.NET – yes .NET.

Our marketing company already sells hundreds of thousands of dollars in computers a month for major manuafacturers and vendors – Dell, HP, Tiger, etc and the one thing it seems they want is more Desktop PC sales.

Dev plan – assuming we roll-it out right is a focus on SEO content for desktop computers for 75% and maybe 25% on desktop themes/wallpapers/emoticons as we monetize that space as well.

Anyway 1 for 2 today and paid just a bit more than planned – justified as worth it to try the test. FYI – it will be our first SEO test on a .NET – I just have always thought and still know .com is where it’s at.

Had we not had the merchants to market in place, passing would have been easier.

So we bought Desktops.net at $2600 and bowed out on pawn.org at $3600 – killing the pawnchild in me 🙂

    Greg

I have no problem with a good .net.

    That’s why we bought holland.net.

we have sold .net and .org in the past for way more than we paid for them.

    Good pickup

Pawn.org was a good names as well, probably worth 5K with no problem

Agree on the pawn.org valuation, yet I am somewhat tight on domains that are not exactly what we are looking for and really felt I was chasing a dream that I would probably not develop – which is sad because I know the industry well and appreciate its “financial” purpose in society – even with all the sharks out there.

Not sure you can go wrong with a country.net at that value. Surprised the states.net at least one did not get action.
