DomainFest: How did we do???

January 24, 2008 by Michael Berkens

Ok, so everyone make predictions, but not too many go back and see how it worked out.

We will give it a shot

So before the domainfest auction we listed 46 names we thought were overpriced and unlightly to sell.

Out of the 46, only  one did sell, food.la for $11,250.   The other 45 did not sell.

Not bad.

Of the 110 we picked most lightly to sell 47 did not.

Also not terrible.

In total there were 131 domains sold

Just to be transparent

We bought:

holland.net

stallions.com

mintcoins.com

cornerbar.com

We sold:

went.com

Nice disclosure and record as well. Stallions.com was a great buy in my mind – very good name. The one I like most at the prices was in the same range, paddleboats.com also for $12k, yet stallions.com appears to be a much better deal.

Paddleboats.com for some reason is screaming at me as a great guy though too.

Nice sale on went.com – good 4-letter word, but monetization difficult – I think you got a good price. I believe wait.com sold for $700 of so last week on NameJet and I wish I had gotten that for an abstinence site – publish valuable information for kids.

Holland.net has great SEO potential when developed as well. Think you did real well on stallions.com though.

Appreciate the auction updates andyour own disclosure.

    Greg

I also was bidding on paddleboats.com and called it a day at $12K

I think it was a good name and its a product.

We bought stallions.com becuase we also own thoroughbredhorses.com, so it was a natural fit.

holland.net we look at as a trade for went.com because they were bought and sold on the same day.

I like the “trade” and think it was a solid move. Nice to hear you were in on paddleboats.com as well. I really like these product names. A few months ago, I was bidding on truckracks.com up to $6060 too, but was just the 1st loser in the end.

Stallions and thoroughbreedhorses.com are a great “domain team”. I tried to register domainteams.com last week, but it was long gone. But, I like this strategy of grouping names for marketing and big company usage. One example or a domain team we have formed is – fantasyrosters.com, fantasyprofiles.com and draftlounge.com for a fantasy sports play. Yes, I know fantasysports.com would do the trick much better but these groupings make sense to me. Much like pairing btobmarketplace.com and b2bmarketplace.com together as well.

Fun to learn from your sharings. Thanks.
