Baidu.com broke through the $400 a share level today.  After hitting its high of $429 in late October it fell as low as $300 a share just a few weeks ago.

For those unfamiliar with Baidu, it is the leading search engine in China.

According to reports Baidu had 61.5% of the search market in China in the third quarter up from 58.1% in the previous quarter.

Google is the second largest search engine in China with approximately 22% of the market.

Baidu is like Google is a company which generates substantial revenue from pay per click advertising.

Baidu therefore is included in the index.

Netease (ntes) seems to be a chinese company which does not generate substial income from PPC advertising or domain parking. They seem to be engaged in the online gaming industry. Their profile according to Yahoo is:

The Company operates an interactive online community in China and is a provider of Chinese language content and services through its online games, Internet portal and wireless value-added services businesses. The Company’s online games business focuses on offering massively multi-player online games, more specifically role-playing games, to the Chinese market. These MMORPGs, as they are commonly known, are played over the Internet in ‘virtual worlds’ that exist on networked game servers to which thousands of players simultaneously connect and interact. The Company both develops and licenses MMORPGs that are targeted at or localized to the Chinese market, and it strives to provide the highest quality game playing experience to its users. The NetEase websites provide Internet users with Chinese language online services centered around three core service categories- content, community and communication, and commerce. In addition, the NetEase websites also provide advertising services to advertisers and provide useful resources to its users, including a Web directory, Web search service, online yellow pages service, and classified advertisements

I love the site and couldn’t help but comment on the stock of Baidu. The stock is in a big uptrend, but has to break above $400 soon or it could fall quickly back to $300.

    Paul

Think Baidu looks the strongest of the group right now.

Think there is just as much downside in Goog at almost double the price
