Source: .VIP Sold 30,000 Premium Domains Including Google’s Reg of Alphabet.VIP For $10K

May 19, 2016 by Michael Berkens

A source who has access to such information, has informed TheDomains.com that .VIP sold approximately 30,000  in premium domain names totaling around $1.3 million dollars through the end of its first day of general availability (GA)

Premium domain names are those having a higher price than the normal registrations fees than a regular domain registration as set by the registry who sets the wholesale price.

The $1.3 Million in premium priced domain names is based on the wholesale cost of the registry, as the retail cost varies by registrar.

According to the source the lowest wholesale price of a .VIP premium domain that sold was $40 and the highest price of a domain name that sold by at the end of the first day  of GA was $13,000

The two highest priced domain names according to the source were QQ.VIP which was registered at for $13,000 wholesale and Alphabet.VIP which was registered in Sunrise but had a premium registration fee of $10,000.

.VIP is owned and operated by Minds + Machines (LON: MMX) which rose 4% in trading today in London.

Weird.. There are a bunch of names which I consider premium and seem to be not registered..but show up as taken when one tries to register them.. Like 11.vip…and others.

Is there anywhere one can see which ones are reserved, because all I find so far is “domain not registered,” “domain taken” and “domain does not exist.” Noting I’ve checked has been shown as available even though no whois can be found and the domain allegedly does not exist. And that include the registry whois site.

Has Google become addicted to wasting money, what is the point of owning alphabet.vip? At some point it goes beyond brand protection and turns into burning cash.

    >”Sold 30,000 Premium Domains”

Is it possible this is just a lie designed to enhance interest? Why haven’t I been able to find a single one that both exists and is not labeled as unregistered and taken at the same time?

Not sure what the timeframe is here, but the registry released an infographic showing “just” 2,394 premium domain sales in the first 24 hours. Maybe the rest of them sold during landrush?

    Finally found one that exists.

It’s an euphoric start in my eyes.
.VIP is quite ‘a smart TLD’, it has 3 letters and gives the name / term (digital) ‘status’* which is not a bad thing in the todays ‘seas of TLDs’.
At the same time we should not forget that this TLD give names just a ‘VERY IMPORTANT’ (digital) status (not ultimate) while the TLD .TOP give the same names a (digital) ‘TOP’ Status (ultimate).
And, .VIP isn’t so generic as .TOP is.

    * That’s why I registered the .VIP TLD with the highest possible amount of ‘vip’ (21 times + TLD).
