On November 15th, 2015 the restrictions on the TLD .Pro were lifted.

Since it was approved in 2000, .Pro domain names had been restricted to to three classes of professions; lawyers, doctors, and accountants.

According to Domainincite.com, “.pro started this July with about 122,000 registrations.”

According to RegistrarStats.com, .Pro never hit 150,000 registrations when it was restricted but as of today according to .Pro domain registration sits at almost 170K domains, most of us wish we owned a stock that has a graph with the kind of growth .Pro has since the restrictions were lifted.

.Pro seems to have picked up some 50,000 domain registrations since the restrictions were lifted.

The growth is even more impressive considering that some of the largest domain name registrars do not handle .Pro including Godaddy and Enom.

At the moment Encirca.com is offering .Pro domain names for just $3 which doesn’t hurt either.

,PRO is going to be a sleeper hit.

Specially given how well it stacks up against ntlds like .guru / .ninja / .etc

I predicted 2x reg base last month when regs were at ~120k

This appears to be just what .pro needs right now to start moving towards the head of the pack. The extension does have some history and secondary market sales which are attractive.

I picked up a few three-letter .pros at an auction a few years back:

    Toy.pro
    Pet.pro
    LLP.pro
    PVT.pro
    Din.pro

Wondering if it might be time to look at selling them. Any activity on the secondary market? Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

      Hey Chris,
I wanted to buy a 3 letter .pro domain but currently 3 letter .pro domain registration is not allowed. So I was wondering from where did you got these 3 letter .pro domains & when?

Those were premium one-off auctions. Afilias was asked by the community already to release LLL pro space. Still no progress there.

Sorry for the delay, Aniket. I was travelling. DNPric.es is correct, I got them at an auction several years ago.

If you have any interest in mine, I’d be willing to sell. admin@webthulu.com

I think the restriction was a bad idea for .pro. There aren’t that many doctors, lawyers and accountant that would want such domain name. Now it’s good to hear that some companies might be using these domain names as restrictions has been lifted.

The registry now needs to drop another restriction and to open LLL . PRO space. This will make the .pro names more liquid too.

Anyone know how 38K .pro’s were added today? It’s now showing 220K registrants since this story was reported.
