Amazon announced yesterday that its “Prime Day” sale using the hashtag #PrimeDay on July 15th in celebration of Amazon’s 20th birthday will “Bury Black Friday” by comparison.
We noticed that the domain name PrimeDay.com was not owned by Amazon.
It seems we weren’t the only one that noticed the domain name PrimeDay.com, was registered way back in 2005 and would most likely receive a lot of traffic and wasn’t owned by Amazon.
According to a posting on Facebook by a well-known Domain investor who reached out to the owner of PrimeDay.com, the domain name will be sold today on July 7th or on Wednesday July 8th for an amount at least in the $xx,xxx range
According to the Facebook post the owner of the domain name, PrimeDay.com said:
“I have received 8 strong offers in the last 4 days hours (they are all in the xx,xxx thousands).
Please submit your best offer.
There will no negotiations or back/forth.
I will be committing to 1 of the offers by tomorrow or Wednesday.””
That was over 6 hours ago.
Of course Amazon could have bought the domain name for likely pennies on the dollar before making the public announcement of “Prime Day” but despite spending almost $14 Million on applying for new domain name extensions (new gTLD’s) they didn’t apparently see the need to acquire the matching .com of what they are promising to exceed one of the biggest shopping days of the year in the United States.
If you’re wondering Prime.com, is not owned by Amazon.com either
Prime.com is being forwarded to CreditReports.com

primeday.sale would seem like the obvious choice but it looks like a clever domainer already picked this up , its currently parked with Sedo
@PotentialNames says
I notices that too just now, but the nameserver has changed to 1and1 parking where it was registered. Most likely, the registrant is a reader of TheDomains. Would be interesting if Amazon picks it up too.

It looks like a flourishing business on PrimeDay.com – I don’t get it. Why would a company value its business name at only five figures? Times are tough . . .
Michael Berkens says
Looks like Amazon was late to the party but registered Prime-day.com with MarkMonitor.com
Tom G says
Amazon got primeday.deals and prime-day.deals also. There may be others, I only checked that extension.

@Brian –
Thanks “clever domainer” I just cannot comprehend how global brand like Amazon, Microsoft and Apple one of whom owns and operates a domain registry, why they put the cart before the horse and announce major initiatives before securing every possible domain combination or securing a TM.
As a domain investor, it lets capitalist, market savvy, swift and opportunity aware individuals and organizations to thrive. Thanks and keep on taking this left hand does not know what right hand is doing, we welcome it.
PrimeSale.CLUB is an interesting one – that is one heckuva CLUB folks could join!
The whois of PrimeDay.de has me smiling – interestingly a table wine exists by that name.
As far as the COM version goes the current owner has a LLC by that name and it looks like since 2-3 years and he might have just hit payday.
Happy Domain Investing!

Can you believe I registered PrimeDayOnline.com 24 hours ago and I already got two offers? Wow! It seems like Amazon is trying to establish a new annual holiday that will be BIG.
Jack says
You just wasted $10. UDRPesque domain. At the least it is long and 1990’s style (maybe you should have also registered primedayinterweb.com or primedaywebblog.com) You’re not a domainer, you’re a squatter.
It is a one day anniversary sale, not annual. The sale is taking place on Amazon.### sites and apps, which millions of people know to go to.
John says
@Jack
A cybersquatter? Then you don’t know what a TM is. Last time I checked ‘prime’ and ‘day’ were two of the most generic English words and if you look up ‘prime day’ on TESS, nothing with those keywords exists. Also, do you really think it’s a one-off event to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary rather than a day to gauge the market for a new holiday? LOL
Jack says
It looks like you don’t know what a TM is. PRIME is a registered TM related to goods ans services in retail. If you place content or ads related to retail, ecommerce, or the like you could lose your little $10 investment in a second, if the mark holder even wanted it. Go back to Domainer school. And learn how to use the USPTO TESS.

Let’s be civil shall we …Prime and PrimeDay are two different terms.
Meanwhile no sale or transfer of primeday.com has been noted – unlike tall claims made by its owner on facebook.
