Earlier today we wrote about the .XYZ team buying the new gTLD .Security from Symantec

.XYZ has now announced they have also acquired the new gTLD .Protection from Symantec as well.

The .XYZ group now owns or has a interest in 8 new gTLD’s.

.XYZ; .College, .Rent .Security; .Protection and an half ownership of .auto; .car and .cars with Uniregistry.

Here is the announcement by .XYZ on .Protection

“What are the different ways an individual or small business can advantageously use .Protection domains? You’ll see that all types of industries can utilize these domains, for different purposes, all while maintaining the authoritative presence of proactively keeping a person, place, or thing out of harms way.

Personal defense

  • MartialArts.Protection
  • TravelAbroad.Protection

Web protection

  • CyberCrime.Protection
  • OnlineIdentity.Protection

Property protection

  • TornadoDamage.Protection
  • Homeowners.Protection

Like we mentioned yesterday, we’re also exploring ways to offer SaaS (software as a service) with each .Security and .Protection domain name. We have a few ideas up our sleeves, but we want you to guess what they might be!

I’m pretty sure this is not the last new gTLD extension we will hear about .XYZ acquiring.

I am more interested in dot Bullshit as it resonates to all of US.

Dot BS is more valuable than dot sucks.

10 syllables for domains the registry itself touts as being among the best achievable:

    on-line
    i-den-ti-ty
    dot
    pro-tec-tion

    2 + 4 + 1 + 3 = 10.
    24 letters.

    Another 9 syllables for TornadoDamage.protection.
    23 letters.

    And 8 syllables for TravelAbroad.protection.
    22 letters.

Length doesn’t necessarily defeat a given domain name, and some longer nTLDs can (and are) doing fairly well because other factors are at work.

That said, I think many registries inadequately analyzed their keyword options when they decided with strings to apply for. There ought to be compelling reasons for launching a 10-letter, 3 syllable nTLD (4 syllables with the “dot” pronounced).

Better alternatives exist in the dictionary compared to .PROTECTION. Off the top of my head: .SECURE, .SECURITY, .SURE, .SAFE, and .PROTECT.
