NetworkWorld: Companies Switching Back To .Com After Seeing Their New Domains Fall Flat

December 9, 2014 by Michael Berkens

A really interesting story just got published by NetworkWorld.com, entitled “Companies are movin’ on up to .com domain names” with the subtitle “More businesses are investing in the tried-and-true .com after seeing their efforts with new domain names fall flat.”

“I’ve noticed a number of companies movin’ on up to prime online real estate by switching from one of the many alternative domain names to .com. Recently, I wrote about a few companies, including overstock.com, Visa International, Connectify, and Teamwork, that switched to .com after having tried an alternative top-level domain.

It appears this has become a trend, as a number of additional companies have recently switched to .com to have a deee-luxe online presence.

Despite the hundreds of options available today, when it comes to domain extensions, GMO Internet, Decoded, FastMail, and Signature Labs are the latest examples of companies that moved up to .com.”

“More businesses are investing in the tried-and-true .com after seeing their efforts with new domain names fall flat.” These arent domainers arguing over tlds v new gtld’s, these are businesses….. end users with real conclusive results. Nuff said.

It shows DEFINITIVELY you are neutral re domain news, not favoring new gTLDs.

Ive had a sudden rush of enquiries these past 2 weeks with quite a few confirmed sales of .com Probably I think that all the general publicity around the new tld’s has ,amongst other things, got Companies talking about domains generally and then having looked at what theyve got saying “why don’t we try and get the .com” and that is now trickling down to sales. I had another company who already have a Country code tld and .net come to me and ask me to procure the .com for them, so it is valued above all else.

The essence of the Internet is a globally connected community. There is no extension other than .com that tells your potential customers you serve globally. All other extensions including ccTLDs only serve a segment of this global market.

Yes, .com is still king, who can dispute that? But what really is the sleeping giant best alternative that outranks every other TLD for commercial use? The answer is .US. I’ve gotten tons of inquiries on multiple .US’s, made a $x,xxx sale from an unsolicited offer recently, and gotten an offer between $10K and $20K for another recently as well. Here’s the Inc. counterpoint to the current .com articles:

“How to Get the Best URL for Your Business–Without Paying a Fortune”
    http://www.inc.com/christine-lagorio/get-a-good-URL-for-cheap.html

Take special note of the mention of “BeautyKind” and how they settled on .US.

Also, if you can find it on Rick’s blog from not that long ago, take special note of how even he stated long ago not to rule out .US and supported the idea that it may have a brighter future. I thought it was my idea there when I posted about it, but he showed me that he had posted about it long before me. 😉

P.S. And make no mistake: in certain specific cases the .US definitely outranks even the .com. 😉

The gtlds areso incredibly stupid people were bound to realize this eventually. Seriously, they all suck and are .mobi regurgitated. If you use one, you are begging your customers to go elsewhere.
