According to a press release we just received from Radix, the new gTLD .WEBSITE, that went into General Availability today has already surpassed 6,500 domains in the first 4 hours
“We have been confident about .website right from the start and these numbers just reinforce the potential the TLD holds.” said Sandeep Ramchandani, Radix business head. Registrars such as OpenSRS, 1Api, 101domain, Key-Systems had expressed their buy-in in the TLD from start by giving it top billing on their homepages even before GA launched.”
Radix also launched .Press and .Host today
“Radix’s second TLD .PRESS has had a great start with a versatile list of Pioneers. MuckRack.com, a global portal for journalists, is amongst the first few to acquire the extension as a Pioneer. The highly credible Online News Association (ONA) has also signed on as a Pioneer, in line with its belief to lead the fast-changing world of digital journalism. The adoption of BlackNight.press, by the Ireland-based ICANN Accredited Registrar, BlackNight Solutions, holds testimony to the fact that a .press adds value to a company’s PR efforts, irrespective of the company’s core focus.
“While .press is succeeding as a cross market TLD, .HOST is, fast becoming the signature TLD of the global hosting community. The .host pioneer set includes elite global & regional hosting leaders, media affiliates and marketers. These have been instrumental in driving its popularity in the community. .host is known for its aggressive direct to consumer marketing campaigns, and those efforts have generated over thousands of pre-registration on its website.
“We’ve always believed in going the extra mile for our TLDs, be it our efforts in marketing or in developing partnerships.” said Ramchandani. “We have received a highly encouraging response so far and are confident that these extensions will feature amongst the most popular new gTLDs over the coming months.”, he adds.

I really don’t think so, I suggest you take a good look at some of the owners of some the .website names.
I just noticed Microsoft purchased office.website and I really think the .website will have a rosy future.

I find this really hard to believe, their premium list was blocked heavily, subpar names were really expensive, I look forward to seeing the list, something tells me there will be a single account that will hold may of these domains.

@Richard S
I agree. In my opinion, there are probably a few hundred legitimate new gTLD registrations. The rest are done by proxies of the Registries, not just for investment purposes, or even known reasons, but more in the inexplicable column.
Take a gander at the ngtld “Registrant” stats, and you’d see that the sum of the top 100 almost equals the touted over all total; and who knows who the others are?

Fully agree, almost every good name was listed as premium and for a high price. Those 6 thousand names are probably going to drop off at the next renewal because they’re probably poor quality names.

Do they count the first 8 hours (up to midnight UTC) or the first 24 hours to determine the winner? I sincerely hope it is the full 24 hours, otherwise I will hate the guy who bet 22 registrations over me at 6,254
