JustCloud.com a company which allows you to store all you “information in the cloud” just bought the domain name Mega.co for $60,000

The domain name was owned by  InterNetworX Ltd. & Co. KG.

The domain sale was brokered by Rocket Name™

According to Rocketname.com, it’s the fifth biggest .co sale to date after O.Co ($350,000), e.Co ($81,000), cruises.co ($82,500) and mesothelioma.co ($76,000).

It should be noted that e.Co was subsequently sold for more than $81,000 in a unreported transaction.

Mega.com is a project backed by Kim Dot Com which offers another cloud based backup solution.

I have no idea of why Mega.com didn’t buy this domain which was being brokered around for sometime.

Congrats to the buyer, seller and broker.

Why would they need or want the .CO? They own the .COM.

Any development on the .CO will just end up driving more traffic to their .COM.

Mega.co.nz is a project backed by Kim Dot Com. Mega.com is not.

    Mega.co.nz is Kims URL

Because Kim Dotcom runs mega.co.nz and NOT mega.com.
Buying mega.co by justcloud.com, which has some bad reputation that I can confirm firsthand, is most probably driven by an idea to run a copycat service that will benefit from confusion with mega.co.nz. One of their recent projects is backupgenie.com parasiting on the reputation of genie9.com. When you run a search for “justcloud scam” or similar queries, it becomes evident what their plans for mega.co are. That was a big mistake by Kim Dotcom not to buy mega.co, but don’t we all make those…

Congrats to the seller and broker… but as far as the buyer…uh?

Why would you spend that kind of money for DOT Co just to forward it to a Dot COM? that is not even similar nor related in any way… in top of it I think the chances of them getting the Dot COM equivalent to their purchase are slim to none…

For the record, Media Options had Mega.co under signed contract exclusive agreement at the time of this sale. We had been marketing the name aggressively and likely the buyer was made aware of the sale through our efforts.

However, the seller/owner sold the domain out from under us behind our back and refuses to honor our contract with him. We are currently evaluating how to best handle this and recover our commission that we are due – but this is a perfect example of the type of behavior which keeps our industry in the closet. Very little professionalism.

@Andrew Rosener, Sorry to hear of this betrayal. I think I remember seeing that domain on your website! If you decide to do nothing, make sure you write the seller off as a client forever. That will be punishment in and of itself. Glad you made known your efforts in his behalf via your comment.
