Breaking: Rosetta Stone To Drop Its Lawsuit Against Google For Selling Ads Under TM Keywords

October 31, 2012 by Michael Berkens

According to BusinessWeek.com, Rosetta Stone Inc. (RST), has  agreed to drop a lawsuit it brought against Google Inc. (GOOG) for selling keywords under its trademarks to other companies for search-engine advertising.

“The companies agreed that all claims in the infringement case will be dismissed, according to a filing today in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. ”

“Google and Rosetta Stone have agreed to dismiss the three-year-old trademark infringement lawsuit between them and to meaningfully collaborate to combat online ads for counterfeit goods and prevent the misuse and abuse of trademarks on the Internet,” the companies said in a joint e-mailed statement.”

This lawsuit in our opinion has been the biggest challenge to Google ability to charge companies to advertise under Trademark Keywords due to the previous federal court ruling, and should be a big lift for Google.

Amazon, Yahoo! Shopping, and Ebay all advertise under, “rosetta stone.” It’s a fast track shopping source to move products, so it is advantageous for Rosetta Stone to allow stores to advertise under its trademark.
