The domain name Zuke.com just sold on NameJet.com for $40,188.
Yup
Zuke.com
The auction had 203 people, with 5 willing to pay over $20K and 13 willing to pay over $1,000.
The winner at the end of the day went to the bidder Id: wonderwgq
Now as for the name why would so many people be chasing down Zuke?
I have no answer.
Zukes.com is a popular brand of dog treat but there is a trademark.
Looks like Zuke is the name of a band, it could be a sir name or family name and many companies have “Zuke” somewhere in their name.
But Zuke.com had little to no traffic.
$40K seems really pricey for this type of domain, unless I’m missing something which I often am.
In any case this was a drop domain so someone just let a $40K asset go for nothing.
G Ariyas says
I had the same feeling when I saw the final price. Winning bidder was the end user for this domain.

But, but, but Elliot said you’re only supposed to buy domains that have loads of exact searches and we should leave the brandable domains alone…I’m confsued!

I’d rather buy a dodge charger..
Acro says
Zuke is Mark Zuckerberg’s nickname 🙂

I’d kill myself if I found out one of my dropped domains sold for 40k…
Anon says
It’s a ridiculously strong brand name.
Microsoft didn’t choose “Bing” for its multi-billion dollar marketing effort by picking out random letters from a Boggle shaker.
There really is no ‘explaining’ this kind of abstract brand intelligence. It’s something one either comprehends immediately and intuitively, or something one will never, ever understand no matter how well its explained.
BullS says
Every word can be a brandable marketing name….
It is all in your mind.
The Peeps Domains says
This is not a Bing name IMO, Anon. It’s not that strong, actually.
Bing is virtually impossible to spell.
Zuke = Zook = Sook
What can you do similar to this with Bing ?
Anunt says
I agree with Acro…Zuke is Mark Zuckerberg’s nickname.

Actually it’s Zuck, my monkey friend.

in the future everyone will be happy… even if they originally overpaid for their domains.

Tortured domainer logic.
You can play ‘that game’ with anything.
Phasebook.com, Wickipedia.org, I believe the proper spelling is “Googol”.
As far as these kinds of web2’y names go, Zuke.com is a beast and its no shock to see someone paid big for it. Equally, no shock to see domainers wandering around confused by this sale, consulting the Google Adwords Keyword Tool for answers.
Attila says
Crazy, but 4-6 letter domains that are pronounceable are easily worth $10k.
But $40k for something that can be spelled as zook or zuck when heard verbally…is lesson number one in Branding 101 of something you MUST avoid…

and a good nickname for Zuckerberg
Michael H. Berkens says
So guys I own a very similar name, Fuke.com
Also brandable, also short, gets traffic and makes money.
I can’t get an offer (not that I would sell it for $50K) for $50K.
SO my point is how do you go out and spend $40K on a domain name like this to resell it later on?
Its just way to much money to pay for this domain for resale.
Maybe the guy who bought it was the end user, maybe even Zuckerberg himself but what about all the guys that were bidding against him?
As I mentioned there were several bidders for the domain and they weren’t all end users.
Chris says
There is something that we are not seeing, seeing as multiple people were willing to bid that high and much better CVCV names on namejet have sold for less than 25% of this. Maybe another word or slang in another language?
Jon says
The price would be a very good deal for end-user if it was LLLL .com that sounded really good with no spelling issues. Zook would be the closest to perfect from similar names, but you still have Zuk spelling issue. I don’t like Zuke as english-language brand, it just does not sound right. But Zuke may very well be a perfect brand in another language.
Funding says
Alot of hot money floating around the world right now.
Check this out: An inventor goes to Kickstarter.com last week looking to raise $100,000 in funding within 5 weeks to grow his business. Two weeks later, he’s raised $5 million so far – and this number is growing DAILY:

Just wait until this crowdfunding/hyperfunding craze really takes off in 2013, after the SEC sets the rules for the funding platforms – you’ll see insane money raised for ideas that VC’s and banks passed on.

BullS sums it up – “It is all in your mind.”
Now I going back to watch some “Land of The Giants” reruns
C_Sivertsen says
Might just be “auction fever” and there is no great hidden meaning as to why it went so high. Maybe we’ll even see it re-auctioned if the winning bidder flakes? Should be a good one to check-up on down the road
Tony says
Zuke’s may have brought it…
Nameclerk says
Small world. I bought a pc from Zuke computers about 7 years ago and that domain was theirs at the time. They went out of business long ago and I’m sure the traffic probably dried up long ago too.

Either end user which in that case isn’t it funny they always pay huge on drops..wink wink. Or a very successful domainer who doesn’t squat lol

And for the .co geniuses – Zuke.co was just reserved 9 days ago on april 10.
Wow – what a gold mine !!!!
Zuke.com for $40K and Zuke.co for $20
Jorge Valdez says
No surprise here. 4 letter, easy-to-pronounce, easy-to spell and cool domain to build a major brand around … and of course .com.
