Funny as Sofi.com should be a private sale…
Sedo.com was only used as escrow here.

So your saying you brokered the sale and only used Sedo for escrow?

  8. RL says

    January 31, 2012 at 6:28 pm

The report is false then. Why would SEDO publish escrow services as sales?

  9. Emma says

    January 31, 2012 at 6:57 pm

I did the math. Sedo did not sell $1.68 M in domain names. It sold about $700k in domains. Get yourself a job and life. Don’t waste your time domaining.

I’m guessing naturkraft.no bought naturkraft.de. I would have thought it was a TM but the translation is ‘natural force’. There are a couple of TM’s in the EU for naturkraft. Maybe a squatter…maybe a clever investor. Nice payday anyway.

  12. Christopher says

    January 31, 2012 at 9:40 pm

Sedo hasn’t reported a couple of my sales through them so I don’t think their system is airtight. I watch the RSS feed too but they don’t always show up there either.

    Re: Emma’s comment:

The second line reads 939 domains were sold, totaling $1.68 million.

This list clearly doesn’t list all 939 domains.

I’m assume it’s only the higher priced/more noteworthy ones, so I don’t know where the problem is?

It seems like common sense (or a lack thereof?) to me!

  14. Voltaire says

    February 1, 2012 at 2:28 am

    @ Andy O

    Well said.

Lets see if the ‘sweet-natured’ Emma has the bottle to front up and apologise to Mike…

  15. Francois says

    February 1, 2012 at 3:10 am

No, the broker contacted me a pair of weeks ago to escrow this private sale through ECOP.com because it’s (apparently) the only escrow offering the possibility to close sales where the identity of one or both parties can be partially or totally hidden.
The only problem was our 2% escrow fee was considered too high by the buyer apparently.
So I was very suprised to see this domain advertised when Sedo.com charges 3% for escrow and without the privacy they absolutely wanted.
In a side note it’s funny that Sedo.com consider marketplace sales private escrow transations and that also scare that a private escrow transaction be advertised that way.

“In a side note it’s funny that Sedo.com consider marketplace sales private escrow transations and that also scare that a private escrow transaction be advertised that way.”

Yep, thus inflating the numbers of sales as if they were taking place or rather originated within their marketplace when in reality are just “escrows”.
As a matter of fact a PR was just issued today with the inflated numbers…
Since the MLS was put in place I’ve seen already a couple of sales claimed by 2 parties…
It’s doesn’t help the credibility of the domain market…

  17. Michael H. Berkens says

    February 1, 2012 at 11:54 am

    Emma

The domains listed in the sales report are the reportable domains, those not subject to a NDA or otherwise not publishable.

The total includes the non-publishable domains

  18. Emma says

    February 1, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Sedo should be taken to court for inflating the sale of domain names. This is luring people to invest in domain names business thinking it a promising business when the chances of wining a lottery are even far greater than selling a domain names. I won $5000 lottery prize 6 times in just 3 years but never sold a single domain name since I started domaining, that is, 12 years a ago. This thing is going to ruin people’s lives.

Stop domainning folks, get yourself a job and a life. Stop dreaming folks, live the dream by living your life thanks a job.

  19. Michael H. Berkens says

    February 1, 2012 at 2:42 pm

    UPDATE:

Sedo has issued this statement today in response to bringing the issue of the reporting of the domain name sofi.com

    “”
We were just notified that the sale of Sofi.com which was published with the Weekly Sales List yesterday was intended to remain confidential. If you are able to remove or avoid mention of the sale we would greatly appreciate your cooperation in doing so. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
    “””

So to be clear the inclusion of the sale was a mistake because it was meant to be private not because Sedo only acted as escrow agent.

I personally don’t think escrow only sales should be included in the sedo weekly report and will be blogging on shortly

@ Emma, not being funny but like, I get by ok with buying, selling and developing domains. The idea of “getting a job” horrifies me 🙂

  21. @Domains says

    February 3, 2012 at 1:19 pm

This is a very entertaining comment thread, lots going on.

@Emma, you must be doing something wrong if you’ve been in it for 12 years and not sold one name. You could also be developing names and building websites/businesses on your domains. Not everyone is cut out to be a banker, or a baker, or a domainer, maybe it’s just not the line of work for you. There is enough information out there to at least do domaining/internet part time and make some money at it. Just because it doesn’t work for you, doesn’t mean the whole industry is a sham.

  22. Mike says

    March 14, 2012 at 11:15 am

I’ve been at this since 1994, grabbed the best domains on the planet, and never made a sale in 18 years.

I got so frustrated that the other day while I was cleaning my gun I shot myself in the foot by accident while venting over my lack of sales. Now I can’t sell my domains or get a job. 🙁

    LOL….you gotta’ love comments like Emma’s .

  23. Robert Cline says

    March 14, 2012 at 11:16 am

@Emma …. you should have been buying .co domains and this would have never happened.

Long live .co !!! Down with .com !!!

  24. John S says

    March 24, 2012 at 8:27 am

Sedo doesn’t allow and/or does not want to sell .xxx domains, because they don’t generate enough traffic. If history repeats itself, then Sedo is going to start “selling” .xxx domains only when and if they become a sufficient traffic generator, like they did with .co, .so, .st and many other extensions- they are not in for the sale, they make money off of you by parking- you pay for the domain, and they cash in on it. If you want to really sell your domain, then you could list it with a friendly moms & pops domain listing service – I’ve used one that does this for free: http://semydo.com SeMyDo doesn’t charge for their service and doesn’t play games.
