I’d put the UNDER at 3 sales. This has to be a joke, I’d be embarrassed asking for such absurd numbers.

    $25,000 – $50,000 for “3dcakeprinters.com” ?

  7. Joe Fitzgerald says

This list is an imbecile-revealing look at Stephen Douglas.

The reserves, the names, the process emit a pungent odor of rancid incompetence.

3Dgamestreaming.com – $50,000 reserve!? Are you kidding us!?

This auction will be a total failure…

  8. LS Morgan says

    Over/under is at 3?
I’ll take the under at 1.

Will be no shock to see ‘vanity bidding’ right up to the edge of known reserve, then the 3d domainers coming out in mass to say how bright the future is, because someone was willing to pay $49.999 for 3dCakePrinters.com.

Reality means nothing to these people.

    August 10, 2011 at 6:12 pm

Well I am still kind of partial to 3D Database (mainly because its mine).
I am surprised as the reserve ranges for some of the names up there. I thought I was really going to the fringe element with my reserve.
For my domain, 3D Database has a long standing in the scientific and medical fields and is now being worked on by some software companies to make a multi-directional database.

As far as 3D Printing … anything, its a trend that is on the move.
They are already printing out car parts, jet engines, chocolate, various types of food. It is something that *MAY* (most likely will due to the cost benefits) catch on in the not to distant future.

There are a few choices up there that I would question but I have not done any research on them. I assume that the people who accepted these domains have done the due diligence required (as they should with any type of domain) before accepting.
With that said, I wont question too heavily on the names that where accepted.
After all this is an auction for domains that are all about “future trends”.
No one has a *WORKING* crystal ball so there for no one can tell you what will or will not become anything in the future.
In the end, if there is a company who is dedicated them selves to making 3D cake sculptures (which is a trend for some companies) they may find some use for the 3D Cake Printer (dot) com domain.

I will leave everyone with these words.
This auction is for people with a little bit of foresight (as apposed to hindsight).

    Just my two cents.
    Cheers

  20. SL says

    August 10, 2011 at 6:13 pm

There’s a couple names that could sell, imho.

3dadvertising.com isn’t bad and *might* have a chance at $25k if the right end user sees it.

3dconsole.com probably won’t mean much in the future but has a reasonable reserve for someone wanting to gamble.

Solarpaneling.com and solarsiding.com would be interesting in the low-mid $xxxx.

These days, the rest is reg fee.

  21. Jack says

    August 10, 2011 at 6:16 pm

And before there are any crass jokes…
I strictly used the word SIGHT and not SKIN.

I know how some of you guys think and I don’t want to go there right now.

    Cheers

  23. Craig says

    August 10, 2011 at 6:27 pm

A (very) few with commercial value, the rest look like the pile of crap I called my original portfolio. Hey – they gotta try. The whole (supplier) sector needs an enima, but we must remember everyone started out in first gear and when the money started flowing, the suits took over and opportunism prevailed.
    dot com forever! Craig

You people are calling an aged domain name since 2004, which has Alexa rank, and Exact Google keyword searches of:

global 4,400 , local (US) 1,300, with approximate CPC of $3.20 , showing 37 ads

    “trash?”

Then I have to call the above credentials into question. Thank you.

I say that it is a good domain (and I haven’t seen anyone say otherwise), probably one of out 6 or so so names out of 130 in the auction that are actually worth something. I don’t think it will sell with that reserve though, needs to be in the 3 figure range in my view.

Still feel they’ll be getting a sell through rate in the low single figures. Will be a big wakeup call for people registering these names.

    ——–

You can’t see the future with your head up your ass.
The only people who ‘saw the future’ were the ones trying to warn these idiots that they were wasting their money when the 3d domainer-madness took hold.

This whole thing has been a case study in mania behavior, what happens when large groups of dumb people congregate around a single ‘idea’, then act as each others co-enablers once reality starts to set in.

These are the sheep you shear. This is why trusting ‘the wisdom of the crowd’ can be dangerous, if you aren’t careful to determine if that crowd has any wisdom to begin with.

I agree there are some very average names on the list that could be replaced with better names, but they can only deal with names that were submitted.

@ Snoopy, Thanx for saying something positive about my domain, 3DDesignSoftware.com! It was overlooked, it made me think, “What other domains did these cynics overlook?

Your valuation of 3 figures again blows up your credentials. Andrew Rosener said my reserve is about right, and he sells hundreds of thousands of dollars from his newsletter. He was interviewed on DomainSherpa. How can a domain aged from 2004, which even Estibot gives a valuation of $2900.00, how can you call that a 3-figure domain name? It’s a product which can be sold online: boxed software in a specialty niche! Go to Amazon and type in, “3D design software.”

If anything, it is priced way, way low – a sacrifice in behalf of the future trend domain auction. Ask @MHB. But someone tried to convince him MotorcycleHelmets is an $11,000 domain, when he himself paid $35,000 for it, and intends to offer it for six figures.

“Design software” would be the natural term (“cad software” would be best). Adding 3d is mostly meaningless because it’s implied in that type of work (Solidworks, etc.).

Not a bad domain though as there appears to be a trickle of monthly searches (1k) with the 3d thrown on. So snoopy’s a little low imho, but not by much.

    Some people have no vision.
They will always see the world as flat (so to speak) and attempt to convince the explorers that they are sealing their fate by venturing beyond the safety of the horizon.
In order to make money you have to be willing to put your peepee (yes I said peepee… a term used a lot in the Navy so not to offend people) out there and see what happens.
If it gets slapped, then you know not to do that again.
Otherwise, it was probably worth the risk.

In the end. The people who believe to the world is flat (those who never left their desks for fear of failure) will continue to be what they are now. No better and no worse.
It is the people who are willing to take the chance to move beyond the horizon, that will ultimately have their names recorded in books for all time.
This auction will NOT make history but its a small step in the right direction.

Let those who do not see have their say, but for us… the ones that have a vision. We will meet out destiny head on in the horizon and see whether the world ends or we discover an exciting new world that will be forever beyond the grasp of many.

    Just my 2 cents.

    ———–

That has to be the biggest illogic that all shitty decision makers cling to… Sometimes, the people you dismiss as ‘flat-earthers’ are really just people with better insight than you, warning that you’re about to go off the edge of a cliff.

It’s really pointless to try and argue this with the ‘believers’; if they were capable of comprehending any of it, they wouldn’t be where they are in the first place.

Safe to say, you’re not ‘innovators’. None of you are ‘thinking outside the box’. You’re following a hive. A dumb, dumb, colossally dumb hive. To you , this ‘auction’ is a thrilling ray of hope. For the rest of us, it’s a story where the ending was known before the first page was turned. Unlike other “Great Tales of Domainer Failure”, though, there were a lot of people who were quite vocal in warning of the impending disaster with the 3d Mania.

You (and too many others) believe the right way to determine if the stove is hot is by sticking your face against it and seeing if it burns off. Believe it or not, some people are able to make decisions with foresight, without having to risk catastrophic failure. These people are going to be much, much more successful in life than those practicing your suggested methods. What separates one group from the other is about 20 IQ points.

Oh well, though… Your money. Spend it however you wish.
The whole ‘3d domainer’ thing has taken the exact course people predicted since day 1. Your ranks were halved when the first renewal cycle came due, they’ll be halved yet again around that same time, next year.

The hypers will continue to post articles whenever a media outlet mentions a 3d TV or a 3d Movie (as if that’s relevant to anything you’re doing) and ultimately, the handful of remaining holdouts will be like the leftover .mobi enthusiasts…

Now you are just showing ignorance.

It is well known that the greatest profits and the greatest loss are all made in thinking outside the box.
Case in point, Google (a word that means absolutely nothing outside of the company). There was a need for a powerful search engine that almost no one else had the vision to fulfill. An now you have a multi billion dollar company. That is called foresight (something that you obviously lack).

Microsoft was created on a dream and a speech. There was no working products when Gates purposed his idea to potential investors. Most of them had no vision and turned down the offer to invest (you would have been one of them). Some saw the potential (they had the foresight and thought outside the box) and invested. Today they are billionaires.

Ernestine was ridiculed with his thoughts on relativity. According to the scientific world (as they knew it), there was no way that his theory would produce the results that he believed they would.
The same could be said about cold fusion, but here we are!

Howard Schultz quit his cushy law job to work as a berista at Starbucks just to later own the place. At that time there was only one and coffee was not what it is today. Now fast forward several years and Starbucks has become a household name. Howard Schultz had the foresight to bring coffee mainstream and not only that… have people pay $5 a cup when prior to Starbucks… it was only 10 cents.

Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity but was ostracized when he presented his (then) theory (now law) to the other in academia. He had the knowledge and foresight to see beyond common logic into the world that other closed minded fools can not grasp.

Domain names where originally are rare item back in the mid 80’s when the first domain was sold. Somewhere in the early 90’s those with some foresight could see that domain names had some intrinsic value to them and purchased the names. Many of us (those who are old enough) did NOT see nor recognize the trend that was on the way.
Just like there are millions of people who do not recognize domain names as being valuable now.

In the end, no matter what YOU say, what ever domains I decide to lay MY money into is MY own business. Any success or loss is on MY own accord.
YOU have nothing to offer ME except the unwanted advice of a person who seems to be in the exact same area that I am.
We make a few $xxx to low x,xxx sales and if we are lucky or wise we come across one or two $xx,xxx sales per year.

I am no expert at this and I only do this as a hobby.
By all accords, we are on the same level and therefore you have nothing of note to offer me.
The advice that you give is akin to a FAT person telling you about ways to lose weight.
If you dont like what other people are doing with their own money and their own domains, and their own time, then there is a simple solution.
Dont look, dont read, and by all means do not participate!!

I will get down from my soap box now.

Cheers and good luck to all.

Okay, you’re entitled to your opinion. But it’s not over until six weeks from August 30th – the end date of the live auction – because Snap/Mon has them in their control to market and sell them. We can’t touch them to monetise them ourselves, until Snap/Mon has a crack at them.

So wait until after October 11th to pronounce victory or defeat for the Future Trend Domain Auction. The auction itself is the start of it, and it ends six weeks from the auction end date. Then do your gloating.

    —-

No, we aren’t. We’re not even close.

The difference is, while I don’t go running to Ron Jackson whenever I make a decent sale, I certainly do make them on a pretty regular basis.

You make no five figure sales, I’d be floored if you’ve made more than one four figure sale. You are in that group of deluded liars who’ve existed in the domain industry since day 1. They talk about sales but when the rubber hits the road, everything they’ve ever done is magically covered by NDA.

For example, if you were say “LS Morgan, I don’t believe you’ve made a five figure sale this year. I’m willing to bet real money to that effect and escrow with Berkens…”, I’d take that bet, furnish the relevant evidence and take your money.

If I said the exact same thing to you, you would cobble up an excuse as to why you would not take the bet. There’s a reason for that. We aren’t on ‘the same level’.

Anyway, Issac Newton, Howard Schlutz and Ernestine mean nothing to your registering 3d Domains. You’re going down a sad, lonely path with those. The existence of visionaries and your willingness to point them out does not mean you are amongst them. In this case, your ‘vision’ wouldn’t qualify you to mow their lawns.

  73. Stephen Douglas says

    @LS Morgan….

    And you’ve done what?

You aren’t reading my posts about the Future Trend Domain Auction™, ,are you? You’re just blathering out bad chili burps on areas you haven’t yet discovered, or don’t have the brains to look into different domains that can resale or be built into valuable websites.

You’re a naysayer. You always are. You have NOTHING ever to add. There’s nothing you give, and nothing you can prove that backs up your own comments, because you’ve accomplished nothing.

This auction is a RESEARCH auction, not a “rush to make millions” auction. I have invested in FT domains since 2003, and yet those domains I have held close to my intellectual heart for selling big, they may not sell big at all.

The difference is this: You are nothing and have never presented anything domainers can go “wow!”

The plus is that all the FT domainers are SOMETHING because they tried, researched, tried, and hopefully grabbed a domain name that would sell for a profit at least worth more than 100%. That means a $10 domain can sell for $20 and they made a 100% profit. You don’t get that, because you’ve always been an idiot. I’ve watched your posts for the last 2 years, and I still can’t figure out what you have that anyone wants.

Here’s the point you miss: This is the FIRST Future Trend Domain Auction™. None of us know if these domains have “matured” to making END USER SALES. You are talking like our domains are directed at other domainers like yourself (although I doubt you have any domains worth more than 3 figures so I hate to refer to you as a “domainer”)

The sales are directed to our combined ability to bring in END USERS. If you want to prevent that from happening because you don’t have domains in this auction, that’s your choice, but all of us will KNOW what your purpose is.

This isn’t an auction directed to DOMAINERS. Period. If they want to buy in, then they see something you don’t see.

What we’d all like to see in the domain community is the elimination of people like yourself, who have no domains to offer, dogging the rest of us trying to find a path. Regardless of the sale results of this auction, we’ll know one thing YOU don’t: How to be an innovator instead of a sh*thead.

I’ve met hundreds of FT domainers who are decent people, and who are looking for a new path for domain investing. We don’t need assw*pes like you trying to degrade all of them, and in your angry loser effort, negatively affect the progress of all domainers trying to sell their domains through auctions, whether they are current trends or FT domains.

What you should do, LS Morgan, is take a look at yourself in the mirror, and ask this:

“Am I an angry assh*le” or someone who has something to offer the domain community?”

On a separate note, I mean well, and don’t rule out being mowed down by gunfire because I feel an obligation to say the truth – not just here, but via snailmail to the powers that be, to the government agencies.

There is a $2000.00 check that was Fedexed to me because the originator of the check has scouted me for money laundering, and sees I qualify because I am honest even though I broke off commuication with him, so I have to be obnoxious and ignore him and toss the check aside. Who knows what kind of reaction that’s going to get? It’s all a risk we have to take.

Stephen, everything you’ve been flogging- from your “certified domain appraisals” to this current failboat voyage- has always been a fucking joke.

You’re about to drink deeply from the cup of failure- and I must admit, yes, I’ll chuckle- but failure can be honorable. We’ve all been there. Nevertheless, the question you should be asking yourself when the inevitable happens isn’t ‘what you did wrong’, but why is it that some people were able to see it in advance, while you needed to experience it personally.

I’m all for “future trends”, but this whole ‘domainer theme’ is a dogs ass.
You can think whatever you want of me- yours is an opinion I couldn’t possibly care any less about- but if we were to line up Schwartz, Berkens, Ham, Shilling, Ye, The Castillos and ask them their opinions not of what they think of you or me, but of the domain names in this auction and the sorts of domains your ‘followers’ are registering, I guarantee you their opinion would be a lot closer to mine than it is yours.

Perhaps you really are a ‘visionary’. The results of this auction (and the whois records on domain tools, should anything actually sell) will be the tale of the tape. Good luck… I hope its a smashing success and you really prove everyone wrong.

  76. LS Morgan says

    August 14, 2011 at 7:02 am

Oh, and let me just add… I really wish you no ill will personally, but if you want to isolate the things that are ‘harming the domain industry’, it certainly isn’t guys like me.

It’s the same cancer of failure, awful strategies, misguided groupthink etc that has rendered most domain forums into garbage dumps. That phenomenon is on play- big time- in your auction. “Optimism” can often times be contorted into an emotional subsidy for shitty decisions, which is what’s happening here. Keep thinking you’re ‘visionaries’ by registering these names. The only person with a truly inspired vision because of these domains is Bob Parsons yacht salesman.

One or two names may sell, but the quality of the names and the reserve prices in question are so pathetically off-base, they’re just as harmful to the image of the ‘domain industry’ as the $1,500,000 Michael Jackson domains on ebay.

    Sincerely, though. Wish ya well.

    @ LS Morgan,

Well said. The success of this auction will soon be revealed, it will be a referendum on the whole niche in my view. If almost nothing sells expect Stephan to still be tooting his horn though.

Personally I doubt Snapnames will be having any followup auctions for this theme, not when the results come out. The whole thing is completely off base, from the theme, to the names chosen, the reserves, the need for people submitting to write long winded explanations of each domain (definition of a bad name), through to the fact that Stephan thinks endusers are going to come along to a domain auction and bid.

The thing I can’t follow is why Snapnames would have anything to do with it, the people in charge of the company really thing a substantial number of those domains are going to sell?

@LS Morgan, who hasn’t ever revealed himself to be anyone… beyond his gamertag on blog posts — is making a lot of people wonder why he keeps coming to make comments about a subject he doesn’t “believe” in, Future Trend domains, here at the blog site of one of the most powerful domainers in the world, Michael Berkens, So you ask, what’s LS Morgan’s goal?

FYI: I started the Future Trend Domain Auction™ this year purely based on Michael Berken’s success with his “3D domains” blog where he states he and four other top domainers “missed out” on purchasing these types of domains. Notice that LS Morgan, nor Snoopy, deride Michael Berkens for his perception and comments about “3D” domains. Interesting, yes?

It was SOLELY because of Michael’s blog that I decided that now was the time to start asking the questions that even the smart guys like EmBee are asking. “Are these domains mature, and are they valuable now?” So, LSM, gets some balls and address your negative comments to EmBee, okay?

This auction, *sigh*, again is based on testing the domains for maturity. Snapnames and Moniker are doing this because they know something LSM doesn’t, and they don’t have to tell him what that is. To LS Morgan: As far as you being someone important, I’ve already sighted you in as a proxy naysayer for a certain person in this industry. It’s becoming more obvious, and I know who that person is.

When you actually put your foot in your mouth by printing this: “The difference is, while I don’t go running to Ron Jackson whenever I make a decent sale, I certainly do make them on a pretty regular basis.” You don’t realize your comment revealed your proxy master.

You like to think of yourself as a strategist. However, it doesn’t pan out for you because you’re still the stiff for your master. Let’s talk like you think you can handle game theory: If it’s a stag hunt, you’re the first to shoot the hare, because you serve your proxy master, the “group” doesn’t count for you. The equilibrium is offset by the fact that you don’t know all the quantifying factors setting up “the game” because you don’t know what I know about your proxy master. So I ask you:

Do I go running to Ron Jackson whenever I make a “decent sale”? That’s not a finite answer, is it? Since most my sales are to private clients who want anonymity, it’s up to you to figure out where the equilibrium fits in. Being a fair guy, I’ll give you a hint that squashes your lame freshman theories: Read the caveat on RJ’s blog about “not every sale is reported” etc. This throws you into a tizzy because I’m using the Neumann/Morgenstern theory, and being “finite” is something that scares you since your anonymous position is jeopardized, where you were hoping the Reinhard Selten theory protects you. And now you have to ask yourself: Does it?

I can answer that: No it doesn’t. I bet you $1000 that in less than six months, you will be revealing who you are, and you might even admit to who you’re speaking for.

But since you’ve you put yourself on the spot by calling out my domain sales, reveal for the readers just one five figure domain name YOU sold in the last year. Then name one six figure domain you own that you have up for sale. Then reveal your blog, your domain industry position, who you are as a pioneer and promoter of domains. Ouch, this is game theory which you don’t understand. You can’t do this, because you’re just a proxy. A voice from a lucky domain investor who cannot stand the changes taking place in his little “kingdom” he once owned. He uses you to attack and disrupt any Stag Hunt, using the Prisoner’s dilemma, where YOU are the prisoner. So sad. It ends for you in a stochastic flame out.

I’ve already stated you are just a “ghost” in this industry, you are nobody, you have proved nothing, so I don’t want to waste anymore time here except to reiterate that the Future Trend Domain Auction™ is and has ALWAYS been promoted as a “TEST” auction for domain investors who are trying to find the prodserv phrase that proves to be valuable and thereby showing that it has “matured” for this value. So “LS”, once you reveal your true identity, show a glimpse of your semi-genius, reveal a reason why the majority of your posts are not “personable”, but “personal attacks”, then we can get you out of your proxy master’s thought processes and maybe you’ll just come clean and state the truth:

    You are a ghost writer.

    I’m bored with you already.

    @Snoopy (Paul Shaw),

Same goes for you, angry little man. Come out from under your rock, show your face, reveal your true name, and get into the game. Or, snipe like a 13 year old girl who found out her best friend is hanging out with your worst enemy — your innovation and aspirations beyond Domainstate (RIP). Let us know what you’re doing to push domaining ideas ahead.

This is just child’s play for me talking to these haters. I’ve never attacked either of them for what they have invested their time in, because there isn’t anything anyone can point out to me that they’ve even attempted to do.

It is sad that these types of people undermine the hundreds of people involved in running, administrating and participating in the Future Trend Domain Auction™ or any auction or new domain promotion idea for monetization and investments. My kudos goes out to domain investors who have understood the high profit potential from investing through intense research, the prodserv FT domains that might, just maybe, sell big. Not this year, but maybe next year, or the next.

Heaven forbid FT Domainers would succeed, and the cranky old “did you see me warn you about that 8 years ago?” naysayers will stop referring to people’s domain investments as bird excrement, and GIVE something else back to us other than Tony Robbins’ regurgitated motivational speaker-ease.

Bluntly put: The Future Trend Domain Auction™ is an egg. Cook it the way you like, because more eggs are coming.

    Yo Embee,

Who is “in line to get a commission”? Since you’re a news site, and state the facts, hopefully, you insinuated that someone was getting a “commission,” but you didn’t base your conclusion on any facts that you revealed.

Are you talking about SnapMon? Or somebody else?

Maybe you can reveal something about the Future Trend Domain Auction™ that none of us know, and we can all assume that your enlightened wisdom has found some person who will be getting an “unexpected” commission off the sale of the domains from this Future Trend Domain Auction™.

Thanks for the clarification of your comment above. Lots of us are waiting for you to tell us who is getting that commission.

    Stephen

Obviously with the comment above that:

“”I started the Future Trend Domain Auction™ this year purely based on Michael Berken’s success with his “3D domains” blog”‘

“”it was SOLELY because of Michael’s blog””

    I was speaking about me

Of course my comment also had a smile on it

But Embee… you’re not supposed to reveal the funnel for the true cash flow from this auction… how many times do I have to warn you talking about this? Tsk tsk… so much for that “Man From U.N.C.L.E.” spy kit you bought on eBay and thought we could use… argggh…

I guess most people know already: The split is 50/50 – we buy Schilling’s island, and invite RJ to start his own newspaper there. He’ll be writing about seashells and flotsam and jetsum! Think of the stress release for him… you know we do it all for his sanity.

Dang cat – always getting out of the bag….

    😉

Rick Schwartz:”Every auction should be a contest. That is why we don’t care if there are 5 names in the auction, 10 names, 100 names. The only thing that counts is there are interested parties ready to bid and prepared to win. The days of 200 domains crammed in an auction to put everyone asleep are over.”

The test is already taken nd scpred if you don’t have two or more people making offers on each of these before the auction!
