Afternic Sells $850K In Domains Led By One Of Ours; TheFit.com at $31K

Afternic.com just released its sales for the week ending Sunday May 29th. All reportable domain sales $1k and over totalled $841,000.
The top seller of the week was one of our domain names, TheFit.com, that sold for $30,900.
QIS.com was a close 2nd at $27,000 with glggroup.com selling for $14,800.
Non-com’s had a pretty good week as well, with Loan.cc selling for $13,500, Pronto.Net selling for $12,500 and Cfl.org selling for $12K.

I actually have another sale of a The…..com domain coming down the sales channel on Sedo.com at even a higher price but I will wait for Sedo to announce it.
That makes 5 The…….com sales for me this year and this is the cheapest one.

It might have something to do with buyer not wanting to contemplate the question ‘what if I’d bought that domain’, even if it means paying too much.
And may reflect the domainer taking advantage of the buyer’s time commitment. By overpaying, at least the buyer does not have to spend more time looking for a good idea/domain combination.
Quoting other overpriced sales probably helps appease.
(note: I call a sale at $30k if nobody else is ever likely to pay $3k overpriced, but others may disagree).
I find the domain purchases above to be insane. I will never understand people spending money on domains like those listed above when they can hand register one that sounds better, has better keywords, and isn’t simple like TheFit.com oh well. I wonder what it’ll turn into.
Rob, if you’re someone who sells domains, why not enjoy the “insanity?”
If someone owns a fitness club, they’re likely paying in excess of $5,000-$20,000 per month (depending on where they’re located) just to lease the space they’re in. Fitness machines cost thousands of dollars each as well. Real-world businesses are very expensive to get started and kept going. When I worked at a pizza place during my college years in the early ’80s, I remember the oven costing the owner about $20,000 and the venting system above it costing $30,000. Today it would likely cost much more. So if someone buys a domain for $31K, it’s just one expense out of dozens of others. And a tax-deductible one, at that.
