Yahoo Answers Google’s Instant By Rolling Out Search Direct: Guess Who Owns The Domain

2011 March 23
by Michael H. Berkens

According to TechCrunch.com, Yahoo has countered Google’s Instant Search Product with it’s own named “Search Direct”

“It looks a lot like Google Instant: as you start typing a query into Yahoo Search, the site will begin populating results with each new character entered (in other words, you don’t have to hit the ‘return’ key). The feature is now live at search.yahoo.com.”

“Yahoo says that Search Direct is looking to help match users with “answers, not links”. As you start typing, a small rectangular widget will slide down from the search bar and show rich results whenever available”

“Asked about how this compares to Google Instant, Yahoo SVP of Search Products Shashi Seth says “They’re very different products. We’re focused on providing answers, not links. Google Instant is focused on providing more links, faster. Not answers.”

On the domain front, I’m sure you no one inside the domain industry will be shocked to learn that our good friend Frank Schilling’s Name Administration owns the domain name SearchDirect.com.

Nice.

    Hello Mike,

We had no idea that Frank owned Searchdirect.com. This may explain why Frank was hesitant in joining our group. LOL, Thats the trouble with trying to partner with fellow Domainers, they have their own names that they mistakenly feel are better. We know our Business Address has no equal in its category. Our Business Address is the best of its class on the planet.

Yahoo no longer uses its own search engine but the Bing engine

anyhow, I don’t see any good reason why Bing and Yahoo are not already merged in one company

I see no reason why yahoo would want that domain name, their Yahoo, not searchdirect. Anyone wanting to use YAHOO’S searchdirect will got to yahoo.

I don’t see a rational connection, the story is nice to know, the domain part a bit baffling.

    Hello Mike,

You guys do not get it! It does not matter how irrelavent a search engine may be thought to be. Just being in the game is tremendously lucrative. As my good friend Rick Schwartz would say, ” Do you have a calculator handy ?

O K here is the question ? What is 1 % of the search Industries Total Revenues ? It is a huge # all by itself ! This is why we are preparing a start up launch to get our share of this massive pie.
