According to the Domainnamestrategy.com blog, which cited an article in “Inc. Magazine“,  the category killer domain name Envelopes.com was purchased in January 2010 for $400,000.

The Inc. article tells the story of Seth Newman president of company called Action Envelope who passed up a chance to buy the domain name for just $10,000 in 1997.

The story goes on to talk about how Mr.Newman spent several years negotiating with the owners of the domain name “before finally buying the site last January at 40 times the original price”.

All and all an interest story of another domain name sale that to my knowledge was never announced anywhere.

At $400,000 this sale would tie for the 17th highest domain sale of 2010 according to DnJournal.com

a nine letters domain sold at this price is a good news for those who try to sell better and shorter domains

Great catch. Not only did he pay 40 times imagine how much business they lost out on in the past 14 years that the name itself could have generated with direct navigation and credibility that comes with it.

Looks like the company also owns Envelope.com.

envelope.com redirects to envelopes.com, so, the owner of both domains has (probably) sold TWO domains, not one, for $400,000

as much as i’d like to think this is a pure domain sale, it’s a website sale though right?

yes, it’s not a pure domain sale, since envelopes.com is an eCommerce site

Yes that does not surprise me at all.

Just goes to show that the sales we see that are listed are just the tip of the iceberg!

I have owned http://www.envelopes.in for almost 4 years now and it has paid for itself 500 times over just being parked. I have had several offers to sell it in the mid $x,xxx price range but so far have not been interested.

Its not the .com but for a $10 reg fee it was a bargain.

G’day Ed, now that’s a very creative way to add to a parked.com page – looks good!

I should have stated that differently.

I’m fortunate to have these 2 .co domains.

…on a side note, I liked your IndieGoGo logo
