WeddingCarHire.co.uk Sold For Six Figures?

2010 March 26
by Michael H. Berkens

According to a press release today a company in the UK, limobroker.co.uk said they recently purchased the domain name, WeddingCarHire.co.uk for six figures.

“Although we paid a hefty six-figure sum for the domain name, we felt the market was worthy of such a substantial investment”  Tej Randeva, Managing Director is quoted as saying.

However the domain was first registered in November 2009, and if in fact it was bought for six figures that would be the second recent domain registration to be resold in the six figures this week.

CamRoulette.com was sold for $151K a couple of days ago after being registered in November 2009.

I bet they really did not pay anywhere near that price and are just claiming they did for publicity.

Perhaps I am wrong… but I doubt it.

I agree with you but I’m amazed that people don’t seem concerned with the tax consequences of overstating what you spend or make in the press.

  3. 2010 March 27

    Yeah,

I sure would be mad to be the seller and be charged with tax evasion for not paying taxes on 100,000 plus in income that was never real.

  4. 2010 March 27

    Thanks for the free ad.

Although the domain is showing as registered in 2009 it was actually drop caught. The domain was probably originally registred 1999/2001.

“the 8th one to call it as bogus”

theorically… EVERY domain name could be sold at a VERY HIGH price but WITHOUT lose money… just IF the buyer and seller are friends… :)

  23. 2010 March 27

    good for you Tej :)

  24. 2010 March 27

  26. 2010 March 27

I know he’s gonna confess something now :)
come on tej, we dont mind you confessing….

  27. 2010 March 27

As a Brit I find this plausible:

    - “wedding car hire” is THE phrase in the UK
    - the reported price is in the same ballpark as 1 wedding car
    - it is connected to the wedding industry!

    - Paul

  28. 2010 March 27

    “I find this plausible”

ok, so he can say us the true price… :)

    .

  29. 2010 March 27

    [wedding car hire]
    cpc = $1.57
month exact searches on google : 18,100

    estibot value : 4300

Seems like buyer and seller are really really nice friends obliging each other :)

I doubt that a wedding car costs millions

So I’m going to ask you the same thing as responded to the first comment with.

Here in the States we have a little group known as the IRS including watching, listening and reading all things public including PR, and if they see someone chatting about spending a lot or making a lot of money they tend to watch out how that playout on their tax return.

There is another group here called the FTC, Federal Trade Commission which looks out for false information sent to the public.

You guys over in the UK have no such concerns?

  34. 2010 March 27

Maybe I need to sell myself a few of my domains for 6 figures.

Just so you know, 6 figures is thousands, not millions.

  36. 2010 March 27

“in the UK have no such concerns?”

since London is the most important financial market of the world I think they surely have controls like those made by FTC

    .

  37. 2010 March 27

im pretty sure that limobroker is not who he says. he comes across as sarcastic.

  38. 2010 March 27

In my mind 6 figures would be 100,000 – 999,999 currency units.

  39. 2010 March 27

“Just so you know, 6 figures is thousands, not millions.”

    e.g. £ 999,999 is £1 close to an £ million or 1,489,998.52 USD at today’s change

Just to play along when someone is talking about buying something in their own currency I don’t think they would convert it into dollars, that is to say if a guy in the UK says he spent six figures that would be six figures in his own currency, not converted to US or EU or anything else

  41. 2010 March 27

however… just for curiosity… since Mr. Tej don’t say it us… who knows the real price of the domain?

  42. 2010 March 27

BTW I see the phone number “0800 043 46 46″ on the limobroker page, I am wondering if this is a toll free number?I have the US toll free number 800-S3X-VILLAGE. It goes to Blackberry.

These companies are overpaying for these domains. These names are getting picked up because they target a specific field. The camroulette.com sounds similar to that new social networking site the Russian whiz created.

It probably can be uses for online gambling. The problem is that domainers such as us have good domains that businesses would like, but most domain companies don’t have good marketing unless you appraise and spend additional money to market it.

The people who over paid for domains can afford to spend the money, and drive up the market. No way this domain is worthy of six figures. The name doesn’t even sound appealing.

I know for sure I have many domains that I can sell because I target specific jobs and services. Someone just got lucky selling the wedding domain which the companies claims is worth the
price. That domain is only worth the value to
them. Most people wouldn’t need this domain. A few months ago hdmicables.com sold for $12k. Estibot valued it at $280k. The market is determined by these unreliable appraisals and people who over pay for them.

I figured out that the hdmi domain was purchased by another company who sells those particular cables. If you put in the address, you are re-routed to their business which has another name. Us little people never receive a fair chance to enter auctions, but others with less appealing stuff are approved.

If you want to make a sale, you need to put in the work to attract prospective buyers. Pay attention to the market. Know what people want. Further, this domain is not worthy of six figures. It’s only value is to help the limo company in the UK.

  46. 2010 March 27

The domain name has no value to any of us. Maybe it has some residual value from being around for a decade. Otherwise, only certain people receive a fair opportunity to make a sale.

These domains may have generateD some value over the years, and then some lucky person was luck enough to find them on a drop. Each of you can do the same, but how will you move them into an auction? Many domain companies pick up junk to add into their
auctions. Half of the domains never receive even one bid.

Excuse some of my errors in the last post. I’m using an IPhone to type these posts. Instead of us being awestruck by these six figure deals, we need to go after some of these domains sitting around at companies.

Attach an idea to your domains. Do what that kne kid did with the Jenny phone number on EBay. Companies are always looking for ways to increase business. This wedding domains is not worth anything to any domainers unless they have a limo service for weddings.

    .

the rumored price is high but at least its website really exists

how many high-priced domains are really used for websites?

    .

  48. 2010 March 27

It’s possible they paid a lot for it, they can certainly afford it. It would be worth it if they do it right, coming top for ‘wedding car hire’ in Google could earn you a fortune. Oh, and purleeese – you can’t get real-life sensible figures/info from estibot and wiki-answers.

  49. 2010 March 27

“coming top for ‘wedding car hire’ in Google could earn you a fortune”

yes, but only if you sell your services in several countries

unfortunately, a wedding car can’t be downloaded from the UK site
    .

  50. 2010 March 27

I don’t think anyone outside of the UK uses that term. But maybe it is good for a UK company to have that domain. Good luck to them if they paid xxx,xxx for it, in recovering that cash.
