WSJ: As Many People Make A Living Blogging, As Practicing Law

Wall Street Journal yesterday reported that “there are almost as many people making their living as bloggers, as there are lawyers.”

More Americans are making their primary income from blogging than computer programmers or firefighters.

According to the WSJ there are over 20 million bloggers with almost 1.7 million of them making money and 452,000 people earn their primary source of income from blogging.

Interesting in a time where newspapers are losing money and going out of business, so many people are making money blogging.

A few more interest stats from the article:

75% of bloggers are college graduates, 1% of bloggers make $200,000 or more per year.

Interesting but I would like to see the proof for this. It is kind of hard to believe.

I agree with you Troy, this seems a bit silly. Here is a good response:

“75% of bloggers are college graduates, 1% of bloggers make $200,000 or more per year.”

1% of 20 million is 200,000. So 200,000 bloggers make at least $200,000 a year. That is astounding.

Wonder what the range of earnings is for the other 252,000 that earn their primary source of income from blogging !?

Not surprising that the bloggers are competing well with the traditional press. Anyone who wants real insights into what’s going on is not going to get it from the traditional press.

Thanks for the link, Gordon. Amazing what a breath of real, honest facts can do to baloney “but we gotcha’ to read and spread it” articles.
